A method for producing a polymeric material is disclosed. The method combines blending of fibers and treating the fibers with a basic aqueous solution. In some embodiments, the blending of the fibers is performed at a blending speed sufficient to shear the fibers in one or both of a longitudinal direction and lateral direction of the fibers. In some embodiments, one or both of the blending and treating are performed in a sub-zero temperature, at a temperature of less than 0 C., or in a range of from about 0 C. to about 20 C. One example application of the method is in the making of a cellulose film from wood pulp.

Paper stock modification device

A paper stock modification device is provided wherein accretions do not build up on the blades even when modifying paper feedstock comprising large amounts of hot melt, adhesive material, etc. and there is no risk of damage to the cylinder. Since a circular member is provided in a space at the other end, the paper feedstock accumulates in front of the end face of the circular member and is in a softened state with moisture removal being incomplete. Metal scraper parts protrude therein and the metal scraper parts are in close proximity to blades. Thus, even if paper feedstock comprising large amounts of hot melt, adhesive material, etc. adheres to the blades, the same is completely scraped off as a result of a scraping action of the plate surfaces of the metal scraper parts that is caused by the rotation of the blades.

Process and system for producing pulp, energy, and bioderivatives from plant-based and recycled materials

The presently disclosed subject matter relates to an industrial system for processing various plant materials to produce marketable materials. Particularly, the system integrates subcritical water extraction technology and includes a pre-processing module and a two-stage extractor (processing module) with constant control of temperature, pressure, and/or residence time. In some embodiments, the final product of the disclosed system can include feedstock constituents for biofuel production (sugars and/or oil), biochar, raw materials for various industries (such as pulp for manufacturing paper or cellulose for use in various industries). The disclosed system can be modular or non-modular, stationary or mobile, and can include prefabricated elements with programmed automatic or manual operation so that it can be easily moved and/or assembled on site.
