Efficient methods and compositions for recovery of products from organic acid pretreatment of plant materials
Provided are compositions and processes concerning efficient downstream processing of products derived from organic acids pretreatment of plant materials.
Fine cellulose fiber-containing substance, method for manufacturing the same, and fine cellulose fiber dispersion
A fine cellulose fiber-containing substance that has excellent dispersibility in water and can be manufactured easily. A method is for manufacturing the fine cellulose fiber-containing substance, and a method is for manufacturing a fine cellulose fiber dispersion. A fine cellulose fiber-containing substance contains fine cellulose fibers into which a phosphite containing a cation of an inorganic substance is introduced. The ratio of the cation of the inorganic substance with respect to 1 g of the fine cellulose fibers is 0.14 mmol or more. In manufacturing the fine cellulose fiber-containing substance, a phosphite is introduced into cellulose fibers, and then the cellulose fibers are defibrated to obtain a dispersion containing fine cellulose fibers, during which an alkali metal ion-containing substance is added to the cellulose fibers, and the dispersion is concentrated. In manufacturing a fine cellulose fiber dispersion, the fine cellulose fiber-containing substance is mixed with water.
REDUCTION OF LEACHABLE BETA-GLUCAN LEVELS FROM CELLULOSE-CONTAINING FILTER MATERIALS
Treatment methods for reduction of (1.fwdarw.3)-β-D-glucan leachables from cellulose-containing filter materials are described.
Methods for processing lignocellulosic material
The invention relates to novel methods for processing lignocellulosic material. More specifically, the invention proves an integrated approach for processing cellulose to obtain paper and pulp and valorizing lignin to obtain value-added chemicals and products.
PROCESS FOR PRODUCTION OF CELLULOSE NANOFIBERS FROM MISCANTHUS X. GIGANTEUS AND COMPOSITES THEREFROM
A process for the isolation of cellulose nanofibers, in particular carboxylic acid functionalized cellulose nanofibers (MxG-CNF-CO2H) from the sustainable grass hybrid Miscanthus x. giganteus (MxG). The process includes the steps of performing bleach treatment on a quantity of MxG followed by ammonium persulfate oxidation. The resulting MxG-CNF-CO2Hs have good dispersibility in aqueous and polar organic solvents. They are also able to form gels at relatively low concentrations. The MxG-CNF-CO2H show significantly higher reinforcement effect when compared to carboxylic acid functionalized cellulose nanocrystals at the same weight percent in a composite composition.
ODOR CONTROL PULP COMPOSITION
The present technology is directed to fluff pulps with improved odor control as well as methods of making such fluff pulps. A fluff pulp is provided that includes a bleached kraft fiber and a copper ion content from about 0.2 ppm to about 50 ppm by weight of the bleached kraft fiber. The bleached kraft fiber includes a length-weighted average fiber length of at least about 2 mm, a copper number of less than about 7, a carboxyl content of more than about 3.5 meq/100 grams; an ISO brightness of at least 80; and a viscosity from about 2 cps to about 9 cps.
CROSSLINKED PULPS, CELLULOSE ETHER PRODUCTS MADE THEREFROM; AND RELATED METHODS OF MAKING PULPS AND CELLULOSE ETHER PRODUCTS
Pulps, cellulose ether products, and methods of making pulps are described.
PRODUCTION OF SHEETS COMPRISING FIBRILLATED CELLULOSE
There is provided a method of producing a sheet comprising fibrillated cellulose, comprising the steps of: a) providing chemically modified cellulose fibres in which a chargeable moiety has been introduced and the C.sub.2-C.sub.3 bond has been broken in at least part of the D-glucose units, wherein the charge density measured according to SCAN-CM 65:02 is 150-1500 μeq/g; b) forming a fibre web by dewatering a slurry comprising the modified cellulose fibres; and c) adding a base to the fibre web so as to obtain the sheet comprising fibrillated cellulose.
A method of treating a cellulosic material, a method of preparing a hydrolysed cellulosic material, use of a chlorite salt and gaseous pressurized HCl, use of chlorous acid, and a hydrolysed cellulosic material
According to an example aspect of the present invention, there is provided a method of treating, such as hydrolysing, a cellulosic material, comprising: preparing a mixture comprising or consisting of a cellulosic material and a chlorite containing water solution, such as a chlorite salt containing water solution; acidifying said mixture.
