Method for bleaching pulp

A method for bleaching pulp is provided. In the method at least one tertiary amine compound is introduced into a process stage of bleaching. This process stage is a stage which comprises mixing pulp and a chlorine compound capable of bleaching.

A method of producing high yield chemical cellulosic pulp includes: (a) chemically pulping wood chips to separate lignin and liberate cellulosic fibers from the wood chips to generate a cellulosic pulp; (b) washing and screening the pulp of step (a); (c) pre-treating the washed pulp with oxygen; (d) optionally washing the treated pulp of step (c); (e) bleaching the pre-treated pulp in an extended duration oxidative bleaching stage; (f) optionally washing the bleached pulp of step (e); and (g) optionally further oxidatively or reductively bleaching the bleached pulp in a shorter duration bleaching stage, wherein the bleached pulp is produced at a yield of greater than 60% based on the weight of the pulped wood chips (dry basis).

In a process/an apparatus for producing bleached cellulose in which a lignin- and cellulose-containing suspension is subjected to at least one process step for oxygen-assisted bleaching in a reactor, such as alkaline oxygen delignification, oxygen-enhanced extraction or oxygen-enhanced peroxide bleaching, the oxygen required for the oxygen-assisted bleaching is supplied to the reactor at least partially in the form of oxygen-containing nanobubbles. The small size and high stability of the nanobubbles allow uniform distribution of the oxygen in the suspension and a comparatively long exposure time. The efficiency of the bleaching is thus substantially increased.

Xylanase variants

A variant polypeptide of xylanase, and a fusion protein and an enzyme composition comprising the variant polypeptide, a recombinant host cell for production of the variant polypeptide, methods for using it and its use, is disclosed comprising an amino acid sequence having at least 79%, but less than 100% amino acid sequence identity with amino acids 1-191 of SEQ ID NO: 1, wherein the amino acid sequence has xylanase activity, at least one disulfide bridge between two Cys residues in the 1-191 amino acid region, and an amino acid substitution at the position 23 or 28, or at the positions 23 and 28, the positions corresponding to the positions 23 and 28 of the SEQ ID NO: 1.
