WATER-RESISTANT MINERAL-COATED CELLULOSE-BASED SUBSTRATE
The present invention relates to a water-resistant mineral-coated cellulose-based substrate, comprising a cellulose-based substrate, and a mineral-coating layer disposed on at least one surface of said substrate, said mineral coating comprising 50-95 wt % of a particulate mineral and 5-50 wt % of a water-dispersible binder based on the total dry weight of the mineral coating, and wherein said mineral-coating layer has been subjected to grafting with a fatty acid halide. The invention further relates to a method for manufacturing the water-resistant mineral-coated cellulose-based substrate.
Microorganism Control System and Method of Using the Same
The present invention relates to microorganism control field in process for treatment of pulp and/or water in paper-making process. More specifically, the present invention provides a microorganism control system, which comprises a first component and a second component which are separately provided, the first component comprises a stabilized halogen-containing bactericidal agent (e.g., a stabilized hypochlorite), and the second component comprises an aminosulfonic acid reagent (e.g., aminosulfonic acid). The present invention further provides a method for controlling microorganism in process for treatment of pulp and/or water in papermaking process, which comprises using the microorganism control system of the present invention.
Hydrophobic paper or cardboard with self-assembled nanoparticles and method for the production thereof
A hydrophobic paper or cardboard that has self-assembled silicon-oxide nanoparticles with functional silane groups and fluorocarbonated compounds linked directly to cellulose fibers of at least one surfaces thereof, with a Cobb value of 8 to 25 g/m.sup.2 and water contact angles of 100° to 140°, which can be used for packing foodstuffs. The hydrophobic paper or cardboard may be printed, is recyclable and exhibits improved adhesion in areas requiring adhesive bonding of paper or cardboard.

PAPER COMPOSITE, PACKAGING MATERIAL, AND PRODUCTION METHOD OF PAPER COMPOSITE
Provided is a paper composite superior in grease resistance, water resistance, and water vapor permeability, with an improvement of the grease resistance upon imparting grease resistance by using a greaseproofing agent having 6 or less carbon atoms. The paper composite contains: a paper substrate having an air permeation resistance of 1,000 sec or less and bulk density of from 0.5 to 1.0 g/cm.sup.3; and a greaseproof layer on at least one side thereof, the greaseproof layer containing an ethylene-vinyl alcohol polymer (A) and a cationic fluorine-containing polymer (B) having two specific constitutional units. A content of the copolymer (B) in the greaseproof layer is from 5 to 50 parts by mass with respect to 100 parts by mass of the polymer (A), an amount of the greaseproof layer on dry mass basis is from 0.1 to 3.0 g/m.sup.2, and a water vapor permeability of the paper composite is 1,000 g/m.sup.2.Math.24 h or greater.
