COMPOSITIONS AND METHODS FOR PROVIDING INCREASED STRENGTH IN CEILING, FLOORING, AND BUILDING PRODUCTS
20170284026 · 2017-10-05 ·

The present invention is directed to products, such as paper and paperboard products, comprising a substrate containing cellulose and top ply comprising microfibrillated cellulose and inorganic particulate, to methods of making such paper and paperboard products, and associated uses of such paper and paperboard products. The microfibrillated cellulose and inorganic particulate material are applied at the stage when the wet substrate is in the process of being formed on the wire of a papermaking machine, thereby avoiding the additional cost of more extensive equipment and machinery as well as in separate drying of a coating. The microfibrillated cellulose facilitates the application of inorganic particulate onto the surface of a wet paper or paperboard substrate when applied thusly, by trapping the inorganic particulate on the surface of the substrate and by giving the composite sufficient strength and a suitable pore structure to make it suitable for printing and other end-use demands.

Cigarette paper comprising flaky filler

A cigarette paper contains pulp fibers and filler particles, whereby at least 20% of the filler particles, by mass or by particle number, have a flaked shape. The flaked filler particles have a length l, a width b and a thickness d, which correspond to the respective maximum extension in three mutually orthogonal spatial directions, whereby the length l as well as the width b are at least twice as large as the thickness d. The mass-specific median value d.sub.50 of the particle size distribution measured according to ISO 13317-3 is between 0.2 μm and 4.0 μm, and the flaked particles are formed by calcium carbonate.

Tobacco product wrapping material with controlled burning properties

A tobacco product wrapping, material comprising composite particles is described, the composite particles being obtainable by a method in which an aqueous suspension containing calcium carbonate particles is prepared, and a metal salt comprising an aluminum cation is added. The metal salt is able to form a basic metal component in the suspension; and has a solubility of greater than 9.0 mg/L in water, measured at the pH value of the prepared suspension and at a temperature of 20° C. The invention further relates to a method for the production of the tobacco product wrapping material, the use of such tobacco product wrapping material for the production of tobacco products, and the tobacco products produced with the tobacco product wrapping material.

Polyvinyl alcohol fibers and films with mineral fillers and small cellulose particles

The present invention is directed to an article of manufacture, which can be a fiber and or a film. In one aspect, the fiber or the film comprises a polyvinyl alcohol (PVOH) and an inorganic filler comprising particles having an average diameter of less than about 20 micrometers. The PVOH has a degree of hydrolysis of greater than about 95% and is present in a range between about 20 wt. % and about 99 wt. % based on the total fiber weight. Methods of making the fibers and films are also disclosed.

A PROCESS FOR THE PREPARATION OF FLOCCULATED FILLER PARTICLES

The present invention concerns a process for the preparation of flocculated filler particles, wherein at least two aqueous suspensions of at least one filler material and at least one flocculating additive are combined.
