WATERPROOF PAPER BAG AND METHOD OF MAKING SAME
A waterproof paper bag made of paper and a method of forming same wherein at least one side the paper has been coated with a waterproof substance. The waterproof paper bag is manufactured from a sheet of paper which has been coated with a waterproof substance so that at least an inside of the paper bag is coated with the waterproof substance, such as a biodegradable resin, or wax. A piece of waterproof paper is then cut from the sheet and is folded and a flat bottom paper bag with the waterproof coating on an inside of the bag.

The present invention relates to a lignin-containing cellulose nanofiber characterized in that (a) the said lignin-containing cellulose nanofiber has a content of carboxyl group in a range of 0.2-1.5 mmol/g, (b) the said lignin-containing cellulose nanofiber has Zeta potential in a range of 100 to 35 mV, and (c) the said lignin-containing cellulose nanofiber has an average diameter in a range of 3-30 nm. In addition, the present invention further relates to a paper and a film comprising the said lignin-containing cellulose nanofiber. The present invention also relates to a process for preparing a lignin-containing cellulose nanofiber comprising steps of (i) treating a lignin-containing cellulosic material with an organic solvent, (ii) treating the cellulosic material treated from the step (i) with derivative of N-oxy radical compound and hypochlorite compound, and (iii) mechanical treating the cellulosic material treated from the step (ii).
METHODS FOR IMPROVED ADHESION OF A COATING TO A SUBSTRATE SURFACE AND ARTICLES MADE THEREFROM
A method including providing a substrate including a substrate surface with a first surface free energy; treating one or more sections of the substrate surface by applying a coating including an ink and/or at least one ink component; and applying a wax coating to at least one of the one or more treated sections of the substrate surface, in which the wax coating has a second surface free energy and the coating including the ink and/or ink component has a third surface free energy that is greater than the second surface free energy such that adhesion of the wax coating to the treated sections of the substrate surface is increased. Also provided is an article formed from a treated substrate.
COMPOSITION FOR PROVIDING GREASE AND WATER RESISTANT PROPERTIES WITHOUT USE OF A FLUORINATED COMPOUND, METHOD OF MAKING THE COMPOSITION, AND PULP MOLDED ARTICLE MADE BY THE METHOD THEREOF
A food-safe composition and resulting article with grease and water resistance properties comprised of a petroleum wax based aqueous emulsion, a food-safe coating formulation, and an alkyl ketene dimer (AKD), wherein the composition exhibits grease and water resistant properties without a fluorinated compound present in the composition. A method of making the composition and a method of using the composition to form pulp molded articles such as food-safe containers and other pulp-based food packaging and utensils are provided.
AERATED MELTABLE WAX APPLICATION ASSEMBLY AND METHOD OF USING THE SAME
An aerated wax application assembly comprises a meltable wax applicator, one or more meltable wax delivery conduits having a first end coupled to the meltable wax inlet of the meltable wax applicator and a second end positioned proximate a meltable wax holding tank, and an air injection system positioned upstream from the meltable wax applicator and configured to inject air into the meltable wax and generate the aerated meltable wax upstream of the inlet of the meltable wax applicator. A method of applying an aerated meltable wax onto an object comprises injecting air into a meltable wax such that it forms an aerated meltable wax, delivering the aerated wax through one or more meltable wax delivery conduits to a meltable wax applicator, and contacting at least one exposed surface of the object with the aerated wax when dispensing the aerated meltable wax from an outlet of the meltable wax applicator.
Single Ply Napkin Wrapper
A single ply napkin food wrapper is moisture resistant on the food side but moisture absorbent on the outside. The wrapper is used to wrap food when delivered to the customer and the wrapper can later be used as a napkin by the customer. Delivery of a napkin is thus ensured with each food item.
HEAT SEALABLE BARRIER COATING
The present invention provides a heat-sealable water-based coating composition suitable for coating substrates used for packaging of products that contain grease, oil, water, etc. The coating compositions comprise acrylic polymer or copolymer emulsions and melting waxes. The substrates may be formed into containers, such as cups, for example. The coatings provide a barrier that is resistant to the permeation of, for example, grease, oil, water, and other liquids. Furthermore, the coating compositions are compostable.
GREASE, OIL, AND WATER RESISTANT COATING COMPOSITIONS
Described herein are coatings which impart oil, grease, and water resistance to various materials, such as paper, paperboard and polymeric materials. Such coatings may be applied as barrier coatings to the substrate materials in order to inhibit and prevent the transmission of oil, grease and water; that is, to prevent oil, water grease from passing into and/or through the substrate material. The coatings include an acrylic-based polymer latex, a styrene-butadiene rubber latex, a styrene-acrylic resin solution, a large particle size wax, and optionally, a small particle size wax. Also disclosed herein is a process of preparing the coatings. Also disclosed are products to which the coatings have been applied in order to impart oil, grease and/or water resistance, and processes for preparing such products.
PROCESSES FOR IMPARTING OIL AND GREASE RESISTANCE TO PAPER PRODUCTS
Processes for imparting oil and grease resistance to paper products. In some embodiments, the process can include combining a plurality of fibers and water to produce a slurry; forming the slurry into a wet web; pressing and draining the wet web to produce a wet sheet; and drying the wet sheet to produce a dried sheet. A sizing composition and a barrier compound can independently be applied to at least one of the slurry, the wet web, the wet sheet, and the dried sheet. The sizing composition can include one or more alkenyl succinic anhydride compounds. The barrier compound can include a polyolefin dispersion, a styrene acrylate emulsion, a sucrose ester, a modified starch, styrene maleic anhydride, an ethylene acrylic acid dispersion, a styrene acrylic acid, a polyvinyl alcohol, an ethylene vinyl alcohol, or a mixture thereof. The dried sheet can have an average KIT Value of at least 3.
