Provided are barrier films, packaging products including barrier films, and methods of making paper/packaging products including barrier films. The barrier films can have antimicrobial properties and can include nanofibrillated cellulose treated with hemp extractives. The nanofibrillated cellulose can be obtained from autohydrolysed hemp pulp. The antimicrobial packaging products or paper products can be made by obtaining pulp fibers from autohydrolyzed hemp hurds, mechanically grinding the pulp fibers to obtain nanofibrillated cellulose, solvent casting the nanofibrillated cellulose films in an aqueous system, treating the nanofibrillated cellulose films with hemp extractives, and applying the hemp extractive treated films to a substrate.

The present invention relates to a process for the spraying of microfibrillated cellulose (MFC), which has a comparatively high solids content, onto a surface, thus forming a stable and homogeneous film coating of MFC on said surface. Therein, the MFC of the comparatively high solids content is subjected to a pressure drop in a nozzle, which pressure drop exerts shear pressure onto the MFC, thus lowering the viscosity during the spraying and coating process.

A METHOD FOR THE PRODUCTION OF A COATED PAPER, PAPERBOARD OR FILM AND A COATED PAPER, PAPERBOARD OR FILM

The present invention relates to a method for the production of a coated paper, paperboard or film, wherein the method comprises the steps of; providing a first suspension comprising cellulose fibers and/or nanocellulose, applying the first suspension on a substrate to form a fibrous web, wherein the web has a first and a second side, providing a second suspension comprising polymers and/or particles wherein the second suspension has a Brookfield viscosity above 3000 m Pas at a dry content between 4%-40% by weight, providing at least one calender comprising at least one roll or belt, applying the second suspension to the surface of the at least one calender roll or belt forming a coating web and conducting said fibrous web through the at least one calender whereby the coating web is applied to the first side of the web forming the coated paper, paperboard or film. The invention also relates to a paper, paperboard or film produced according to the method.

Barrier laminate with excellent barrier properties against moisture and gas and method of manufacturing same

The present invention provides a method for manufacturing a barrier laminate in which barrier materials is directly coated on a paper substrate, by suppressing penetration of barrier materials into paper through the paper surface sizing or coating process and increasing density and smoothness of the paper through the calendering process.
