Hydrophobic coated paper substrate for polymer emulsion topcoats and method for making same
A hydrophobic coated paper substrate formed from a paper substrate of paper fibers and internal sizing agent, a surface size layer of one or more surface sizing starches, optionally one or more non-starch hydrophobic surface sizing agents, and optionally one or more paper pigments, on at least one surface of the paper substrate, and at least one hydrophobic pigmented coating layer of a paper pigment component and a hydrophobic pigment binder component on at least one surface size layer. Also a method for preparing such coated paper substrates.
PAPER-SPECIFIC MOISTURE CONTROL IN A TRAVELING PAPER WEB
A network-based system and method for providing desired moisture set point values for individual papers lines based on the physical properties of each liner and the atmospheric conditions associated with a corrugator is disclosed. The desired moisture set point values are based on the hygroexpansivity of each individual paper liner. Once the moisture set point value has been determined, a conditioning apparatus adjusts a moisture value for each liner in order to tune the post-warp characteristics of the final corrugated product.

The method then includes applying a basecoat to the calendered paperboard substrate to yield a basecoated paperboard substrate, the basecoat includes a basecoat binder and a basecoat pigment blend. The method further includes applying a topcoat to the basecoated paperboard substrate.

The present invention relates to a process for improved surface sizing in the manufacture of paper or board products. According to the present invention, an aqueous dispersion of microfibrillated cellulose (MFC), starch and pigments or fillers is treated by jet cooking and then used for surface sizing in a process for manufacturing a paper or board product.

The present invention relates to a process for improved surface sizing in the manufacture of paper or board products. According to the present invention, an aqueous dispersion of microfibrillated cellulose (MFC), starch and pigments or fillers is treated by jet cooking and then used for surface sizing in a process for manufacturing a paper or board product.
Paper strength improving composition, manufacture thereof and use in paper making
Embodiments of the present invention relate to a method of making a paper comprising the steps of: a) providing a cationic wet strength resin comprising a polyamidoamine epihalohydrin, a condensation copolymer of epihalohydrin and amine, or combination thereof; b) providing an anionic polymer; c) co-mixing the cationic wet strength resin and the anionic polymer to provide a composition comprising polyelectrolyte complexes; d) providing an aqueous pulp slurry, draining the aqueous pulp slurry on a screen to form a wet fiber web, and drying the wet fiber web to obtain the paper, wherein said co-mixed composition is introduced to the aqueous pulp slurry or on the formed wet fiber web. Embodiments of the present invention further relates to a paper wet strength composition, its use in paper making and a paper obtainable therefrom.

The invention relates to a packaging material comprising: a paperboard substrate comprising a first and a second side, at least one barrier layer applied on the first side of the substrate, the barrier layer comprising a water-soluble polymer selected from the group of polyvinyl alcohol, a copolymer of ethylene and polyvinyl alcohol, starch, carboxymethylcellulose and combinations thereof in an amount of at least 50 weight %, based on the dry weight of the barrier layer, an extrusion coated layer of a polyolefin on the barrier layer, and at least one dispersion barrier layer applied on the second side of the substrate, which at least one dispersion barrier layer forms a printing surface of the packaging material. The invention further relates to a method of manufacturing a respective packaging material.
