There is provided a coated paperboard comprising a base board having a top side provided with a pigment coating, which pigment coating comprises a pigment mixture, a binder and a rheology modifier, wherein: the pigment mixture comprises, by dry weight, 0-17% of clay, 60-90% of a first CaCO.sub.3 pigment and 0-30% of a second CaCO.sub.3 pigment, provided that the amount of clay and second CaCO.sub.3 pigment combined is at least 10%; the d.sub.50 of the first CaCO.sub.3 pigment is 0.60-0.80.Math..Math. and the d.sub.98 of the first CaCO.sub.3 pigment is at least 2.8.Math..Math.; the d.sub.50 of the second CaCO.sub.3 pigment is 0.630.10.Math..Math. and the d.sub.75 of the second CaCO.sub.3 pigment is less than 1.2.Math..Math.; the binder comprises a styrene-butadiene copolymer or a styrene-acrylate copolymer; and the dry weight ratio of pigment to binder in the pigment coating is from 100:16 to 100:20.

A METHOD FOR PRODUCING A HEAT SEALABLE MULTI-LAYER PAPERBOARD AND A HEAT SEALABLE MULTI-LAYER PAPERBOARD OBTAINABLE BY THE METHOD

Disclosed are methods for producing heat sealable multilayer paperboards including precoating layer including polyvinyl acetate acrylate latex binder and one or more water-based barrier layers. Heat sealability of the multilayer paperboard was significantly better than heat-sealability of a multilayer paperboard wherein the precoating was omitted or wherein the precoating incudes typical binders such as styrene butadiene latex or styrene acrylate latex but no polyvinyl acetate acrylate latex. Also disclosed are heat sealable multilayer paperboards obtainable by the method and use of polyvinyl acetate acrylate latex in precoating composition for improving heat sealability of a multi-layer paperboard.
