RUBIDIUM AND/OR ZINC COMPOUNDS FOR TREATING PARKINSON'S AND OTHER NEURODEGENERATIVE DISEASES

Compositions that comprise salts, compounds and complexes of .sup.64Zn-enriched zinc, such as .sup.64Zn-enriched zinc aspartate, and further optionally include .sup.85Rb-enriched rubidium salt compounds of general formula 1, below, wherein each of R.sub.1 through R.sub.14 is independently selected from H, OH, F, Cl, Br, I, C.sub.1-C.sub.6 alkyl, C.sub.1-C.sub.6 alkoxy, and NO.sub.2, such as the compound of Formula 1 in which R.sub.3 is CH.sub.3 and all other R groups are H for use to treat a neurodegenerative disease (NDD), such as Parkinson's disease (PD). Methods that entail administering such compositions to treat an NDD, such as PD, optionally in combination with any other treatment for an NDD such as for PD.

Fortified micronutrient salt formulations

Salt formulations, which are resistant to moisture and cooking conditions, are described herein. The formulations provide particles of micronutrients and vitamins encapsulated within heat resistant pH-sensitive water-insoluble polymers, which are packaged within a salt shell. The pH-sensitive, water-insoluble, thermally stable materials stabilize the micronutrients, particularly at high temperatures, such as during food preparation and cooking, and release the micronutrients at the desired locations such as the stomach, small intestine, etc. Preferred pH-sensitive polymers release at a low pH, less than the pH present in the stomach. The particles can be used to deliver daily-recommended doses of micronutrients simultaneously with salt, eliminating the need for vitamin pills. This is particularly important in populations suffering from severe malnutrition.

Neuroblastoma treatment with taurolidine hydrolysis products
11541061 · 2023-01-03 · ·

Neuroblastoma is a tumor primarily affecting children. The current standard of care is not curative except in the rare case of a surgically-resectable lesion, although very high survival rates have been documented for low-risk neuroblastoma and moderate-risk neuroblastoma. Taurolidine was developed as an anti-infective, but it has been found to have surprising oncolytic activity in cell cultures and now in a rodent cancer model. The efficacy in rodent model is superior to the efficacy in cell culture. This invention relates to the use of taurolidine hydrolysis products (tarultam and/or taurinamide and/or methylene glycol and/or selected combinations thereof) for the treatment of neuroblastoma in juvenile mammals.

A method for treating a hyperhomocysteinemic subject having cerebral ischemic stroke generally includes administering to the hyperhomocysteinemic subject, following cerebral stroke, a composition that includes an inhibitor or an antagonist of a GluN2A-containing N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor (NMDAR) in an amount effective to ameliorate at least one symptom or clinical sign of cerebral stroke.
