A carded staple fiber nonwoven having a basis weight of between about 50 grams per square meter (gsm) and about 100 gsm, includes a blend of absorbing fibers, stiffening fibers and filler fibers. The carded staple fiber nonwoven has a pore volume radius mode of between about 60 m and about 120 m.

A glass fiber mat comprises glass fibers of a first kind, glass fibers of a second kind and a binding agent. Glass fibers of the first kind in this case are characterized by a mean fiber diameter of under 6 m and compliance with the EC Protocol ECB/TM/27 rev. 7 and glass fibers of the second kind by a mean fiber diameter of over 6 m. The ratio between the weight component of glass fibers of the first kind and the weight component of glass fibers of the second kind is between 0.01 and 0.15. And the surface weight of the glass fiber mat is between 25 g/m2 and 80 g/m2. In a CV floor covering comprising a usable layer and a structural layer, the structural layer comprises a glass fiber mat of this kind provided with impregnation.

Nonwoven joint tape having low moisture expansion properties and method for using same

The invention is directed to a joint tape for finishing a joint between boards having a nonwoven substrate that does not swell substantially in the presence of water. The invention further provides a method of finishing a joint between boards having the steps of (i) applying a joint tape of the invention to a joint between boards by embedding the joint tape in a first coat of joint compound, (ii) applying a second coat of joint compound over the tape, wherein step (ii) is carried out before the joint tape and joint compound applied in step (i) have substantially dried, and optionally (iii) applying a third fill or finish coat of joint compound over the tape, wherein step (iii) is carried out before the joint tape and second coat have substantially dried.

Filter medium for air filter, filter pack, and air filter unit

Provided are a filter medium for an air filter capable of having extended life even when composed of embossable material. The filter medium (1) has a tensile elongation of 10% or greater, and includes a main collection layer (30) having a filing rate of 5% to 15%, a thickness of 0.35 mm to 0.70 mm, and a peak in a fiber diameter distribution at less than 1.0 m and a peak at 1.0 m or greater. An average fiber diameter of small fiber diameters of less than 1.0 m is from 0.1 m to less than 0.8 m, and an average fiber diameter of large fiber diameters of 1.0 m or greater is from 1.2 m to less than 3.0 m. A volume ratio of the fibers having the small fiber diameter to the fibers having the large fiber diameter is from 30:70 to 80:20.

PASTING PAPER FOR BATTERIES COMPRISING MULTIPLE FIBER TYPES

Articles and methods involving pasting papers are generally provided. In certain embodiments, a pasting paper may comprise a plurality of cellulose fibers, a plurality of multicomponent fibers, and a plurality of glass fibers. In some embodiments, the average fiber diameter of each plurality of fibers is greater than or equal to 1 micron. In some embodiments, a pasting paper may have a thickness of less than 0.2 mm, an air permeability of less than or equal to 300 CFM, a 1.28 spg sulfuric acid wicking height of greater than 3 cm, and/or may be configured to have a dry tensile strength in a machine direction of greater than or equal to 1 lb/in after storage in 1.28 spg sulfuric acid at 75 C. for 168 hours. In some embodiments, a pasting paper may be disposed on a battery paste, such as a battery paste for use in a lead-acid battery. In certain cases, forming a battery plate may comprise disposing a pasting paper on a battery paste. In certain cases, a lead-acid battery may be assembled by assembling a first battery plate comprising a pasting paper with a separator and a second battery plate.

A multi-faceted family of non-woven webs that can take the form of a filter media, an adaptable forming process and a machine capable of making the range of media are disclosed. The filter medium can have a first surface and a second surface defining a thickness. The medium can comprise a region having a gradient. Such a gradient is formed by having a medium wherein the concentration of a fiber, a property or other component varies from one surface to the next surface. The gradient region of the media can comprise the entire thickness of the medium or can comprise a region that comprises a portion of the media thickness. The media are characterized by the presence of a continuous change of the fiber concentration or property within the region.

A carded staple fiber nonwoven having a basis weight of between about 45 grams per square meter (gsm) and about 150 gsm, includes a blend of absorbing fibers, stiffening fibers and filler fibers. The carded staple fiber nonwoven is non-heat stiffened, has an air permeability of between about 100 m.sup.3/m.sup.2/min and about 500 m.sup.3/m.sup.2/min, and a pore radius mode of between about 60 m and about 120 m.
