METHOD OF MAKING A SPUNBOND NONWOVEN LAMINATE

An apparatus for making a spunbond nonwoven laminate having a plurality of spunbond nonwoven layers has a row extending in a travel direction of two, three, or four spinning beams each emitting a multiplicity of multicomponent crimped continuous filaments with the filaments of each beam having a degree of crimp different from that of the filaments of each of the other beams. Respective extruders supply each beam with the components of the respective filaments and respective supply units feed each of the extruders with the respective components. The rate at which the components are supplied to the extruders is adjusted for varying the proportions of the components in each filament. A conveyor extends in the direction below the beams and receives the filaments as respective layers from the respective beams.

The present invention addresses the problem of providing: a polishing pad that is long-lasting, has a high polish rate, and is capable of producing a high degree of flatness on polished articles; and a method for manufacturing the polishing pad. The solution provided is to eliminate a sea component from a non-woven fabric that includes a binder fabric and a sea-island type composite fiber composed of the sea component and an island component, the island component having a diameter of 10-2500 nm, and to add a polymer elastic body to the non-woven fabric.

NON-WOVEN STRUCTURE WITH FIBERS CATALYZED BY A METALLOCENE CATALYST

A bonded and entangled non-woven structure made of at least 50% staple fibers by weight of the bonded and entangled non-woven structure, and at least a partial bonding of the fibers of the non-woven structure. The at least partial bonding including thermally activated bonds between a first polyolefin material produced with a catalyst including at least one metallocene catalyst and having a melting point in the range 130-170? C. and a second material having a melting point which is at least 10? C. higher than the melting point of the first material, the weight of the first material in the non-woven structure being at least 3% of the weight of the nonwoven structure.

Nonwoven webs having excellent fluid handling characteristics are disclosed. The nonwoven webs are made from a combination of binder fibers and structure fibers. The structure fibers are made from multicomponent, hollow fibers. The structure fibers include first polymer component zones that alternate with second polymer component zones around the circumference of the fiber. The first polymer component zone is made from a polymer having a lower melting temperature than the polymer contained in the second polymer component zone. In this manner, the fibers have a three-dimensional conformation that produces significant void volume within the nonwoven web.
