Water/oil repellent composition, method for its production, and article
To provide a water/oil repellent composition whereby it is possible to obtain an article which is excellent in each of water-repellency, oil-repellency, washing durability, heavy rain durability and texture, a method for producing said composition, and an article which is excellent in each of water-repellency, oil-repellency, washing durability, heavy rain durability and texture. The water/oil repellent composition comprises a copolymer having units based on a monomer (a), units based on a monomer (b) and units based on a monomer (c), and a liquid medium. Monomer (a): a compound represented by (ZY).sub.nX (Z: a C.sub.1-6 perfluoroalkyl group, etc.; Y: a divalent organic group, etc.; n: 1 or 2; X: a polymerizable unsaturated group). Monomer (b): a (meth)acrylate having no polyfluoroalkyl group and having an alkyl group with at least 20 carbon atoms. Monomer (c): a compound represented by CH.sub.2CR.sup.1C(O)O[(C.sub.2H.sub.4O).sub.a(C.sub.4H.sub.8O).sub.b]H (R.sup.1: a hydrogen atom or a methyl group, and a/b=1 to 3).
POLYMER DEPOSITION AND ATTACHMENT PROCESS FOR TEXTILES
A system and method for applying a polymer surface treatment to carpets and other textiles is provided. The system and method include the use of a surfactant-free emulsion of a surface treatment polymer. The use of the surfactant-free emulsion of a surface treatment polymer reduces or eliminates the need to use pH adjusting agents and/or ionic salt solutions when applying surface treatment polymers to carpets or other textiles. By reducing the need to remove surfactants, emulsifiers, pH adjusting agents, and/or salts, the total volume of water used in treating carpets or other textiles is reduced.

Ventilation insert
A ventilation insert for textiles, with at least one layer, covered at least partially by an absorption material and having ventilation openings, the openings being at least partially closeable via a liquid by swelling of the absorption material, obtainable by: a) treating a layer having ventilation openings with a mixture, containing a wetting agent, initiator, polymerizable monomer or oligomers, and a cross-linking agent, as a preliminary stage for the absorption material; and b) polymerizing the monomer or oligomer to form the absorption material while forming a bonded connection between the absorption material and the layer. The ventilation insert has a relatively low thickness, a low weight per unit area, and high flexibility permanently and independently of moisture after economical production, via one layer, self-sealingly closing ventilation openings, and containing the absorption material. The absorption material is connected to the layer by bonding, at least in some regions.
