A coated paperboard is disclosed which includes a coating containing substantially no fluorochemical or wax, exhibiting good resistance to oil and grease, no tendency toward blocking, the coated paperboard being fully repulpable as well as compostable.

A coated paperboard is disclosed which includes a barrier coating containing substantially no fluorochemical or wax, exhibiting good resistance to oil and grease, no tendency toward blocking, the coated paperboard being fully repulpable as well as compostable. The coated paperboard may further have a printable coating on a surface opposite from the barrier coating.

The invention relates to a method for manufacturing a heat scalable barrier material (2), the method comprising: supplying a paper (10, 11) having a first side and a second side, applying a barrier coating dispersion on the first side of the paper by using a blade coater or a rod coater, the barrier coating dispersion being an aqueous dispersion having solids content in a range between 40 and 60 wt. % and comprising from 20 wt. % to 60 wt. % mineral pigment(s), and from 20 wt. % to 80 wt. % functional polymer(s) which are selected from a group consisting of: polyolefin dispersion(s), acrylate dispersion(s), styrene-acrylate dispersion(s), vinyl acetate-acrylate dispersion(s), and styrene-butadiene latex dispersion(s), and drying the barrier coating dispersion in order to form a barrier coating layer (20). The invention relates to a use of the heat sealable barrier material. The invention further relates to a package.
