Flushable wipe and method of forming the same
A multi-ply flushable wipe includes a ply having first and second exterior layers and a middle layer disposed therebetween. Each of the exterior layers includes at least 50% by weight natural fibers. When foam-formed, the middle layer includes at least 25% by weight natural fibers. In embodiments, the middle layer may include at least 75% by weight natural fibers. The middle layer also includes synthetic fibers that have a length within the range of 1 mm and 20 mm. The wipe may have a length weight weighted average fiber length of less than 4 mm and a wet CD strength of greater than 20 N/m. Each ply of the wipe may be formed by wetlaying the first and second exterior layers and a foam formed middle layer to form a web, imprinting the web with a structured fabric, and drying the web. The plies are then attached using a binder.
Fibrous structure-containing articles that exhibit consumer relevant properties
Articles, such as sanitary tissue products, including fibrous structures, and more particularly articles including fibrous structures having a plurality of fibrous elements wherein the article exhibits differential cellulose content throughout the thickness of the article and methods for making same are provided.
Multi-ply tissue product
Disclosed are non-treated, creped tissue webs, and tissue products produced therefrom, having low stiffness and surface lint. The inventive products may be produced by a print creping process adapted to dispose a non-crosslinked latex polymer on at least one of the outer surfaces of the tissue product. The non-crosslinked latex polymer creping composition does not negatively affect stiffness such that the products generally have a Stiffness Index less than about 5.0, such as from about 2.5 to about 5.0.
Fibrous structure-containing articles that exhibit consumer relevant properties
Articles, such as sanitary tissue products, comprising fibrous structures, and more particularly articles comprising fibrous structures comprising a plurality of fibrous elements wherein the articles exhibit improved consumer relevant properties, for example improved bulk and absorbent properties, compared to known articles and methods for making same are provided.
Process of determining features of a papermaking fabric based on sizes and locations of knuckles and pockets in the fabric
A process of determining features of a fabric. A representation of a portion of a surface of the fabric is formed showing locations and sizes of knuckles and pockets in the fabric surface. The representation is a print or a photograph of the fabric surface. An image is generated based on the representation. At least a portion of the image is displayed on a computer screen. The sizes and locations of the knuckles or pockets is determined. A unit cell is drawn for the portion of the fabric surface in the image. The unit cell is defined by guidelines that (i) pass through the centers of the knuckles and (ii) form shapes that surround areas of the image that correspond to where the pockets are formed between the knuckles. A fabric planar volumetric index is calculated based on properties of the unit cell formed by the guidelines.
FLUSHABLE WIPE AND METHOD OF FORMING THE SAME
A single or multi-ply flushable and dispersible wet wipe including a wet laid fibrous web imprinted using a structuring fabric, a binder composition comprising poly(vinyl) alcohol, poly(vinyl) acetate, poly (ethylene) (vinyl) alcohols, poly (ethylene) (vinyl) acetate, copolymers of vinyl acetate-ethylene, or combinations thereof, and one or more additives. In an exemplary embodiment, the fibrous web is wetted by a wetting solution comprising 0.1% to about 10% by weight of one of the following: (1) boric acid; and (2) boric acid and a mono or divalent salt.
SOFT TISSUE COMPRISING NON-WOOD FIBERS
The present invention provides soft, durable and bulky tissue products comprising non-wood fibers and more particularly hesperaloe fiber. The inventors have discovered that high yield hesperaloe pulp fiber, when incorporated in amounts of at least about 5 percent by weight of the tissue product, produces products having a GMT less than about 1000 g/3 and a GM Slope less than about 7.0 kg. At the foregoing tensile strengths and modulus the tissue products of the present invention are also generally soft, such as having a Stiffness Index less than about 10.0, and more preferably less than about 9.0, such as from about 7.0 to about 9.0.
HIGHLY DURABLE TOWEL COMPRISING NON-WOOD FIBERS
The present invention relates to tissue products comprising high yield hesperaloe fiber having improved wet performance, such as improved absorbency, CD Wet/Dry Ratio and CD Wet Durability. The addition of high yield hesperaloe pulp fibers surprisingly improves the CD Wet/Dry ratio without negatively affecting the absorbency of the tissue product. For example, tissue products of the present invention generally have an Absorbent Capacity greater than about 6.0 g/g, such as from about 8.0 to 8.0 g/g. As such the tissue products are durable when wet, but are still sufficiently absorbent. This balance of absorbency and wet strength is not found in the prior art without resorting to adding latex binders or the like to the tissue product.
METHOD OF MAKING A STRUCTURED FIBROUS WEB AND A CREPED FIBROUS WEB
The invention relates to a method of making a structured fibrous web (W). The method comprises forming a fibrous web (W) and conveying the formed fibrous web on a water receiving felt (5) to a dewatering nip (PN) formed by a first press unit (8) and a second press unit (9) and where an endless belt (11) is passed through the nip together with the fibrous web 5 (W) and the water receiving felt (5), The endless belt has a side which is covered by a polymer and which contacts the fibrous web (W) in the dewatering nip (PN). After the dewatering nip, the web (W) is transferred with a speed difference to an endless structured clothing (12) which is permeable to air and has protruding knuckles (40) on the side that contacts the fibrous web (W) and which protruding knuckles (49) give the structured clothing (12) a topographic surface 10 area which, for a given length of the structured clothing (12) in the machine direction and a given width of the structured clothing in the cross machine direction, exceeds the plain surface area of a part of the endless belt (11) having an equal length and width. The structured clothing is operated at a speed which is so much lower than the speed of the endless belt (11) that the relative difference in speed between the endless belt (11) and the structured (12) fabric 15 corresponds to the relative difference in surface area between the endless belt (11) and the structured clothing. In this way, the fibers of the fibrous web (W) will be evenly distributed on the structured clothing (12). The invention also relates to a creped fibrous web (W) having a basis weight in the range of 14 g/m.sup.2-40 g/m.sup.2, and having a three-dimensional structure formed by depressed regions (45) and elevated regions (46). The fibers of the fibrous web (W) are 20 evenly distributed over the surface of the creped fibrous web (W).
Absorbent sheets having high absorbency and high caliper, and methods of making soft, absorbent sheets
An absorbent cellulosic sheet made by a method that includes forming an aqueous cellulosic web on a structuring fabric in a papermaking machine, non-compactively dewatering the cellulosic web on the structuring fabric, and drying the cellulosic web to form the absorbent cellulosic sheet. A portion of the structuring fabric on which the cellulosic web is formed has an adjusted planar volumetric index of at least about 27.
