SURFACE ENHANCED PULP FIBERS AT A SUBSTRATE SURFACE

A paper product having improved printing characteristics and a method of making the paper product. This paper product has a fibrous substrate and top layer of surface enhanced pulp fibers that is integrally coupled to the top surface of the fibrous substrate. The paper product is produced by providing an aqueous slurry formed from a blend of cellulosic fibers and water and at least partially dewatering the aqueous slurry of cellulosic fibers and water to form the fibrous substrate. Subsequently, a surface treatment formed from an aqueous composition of water and surface enhanced pulp fibers is applied to the top surface of the fibrous substrate and thereafter the treated fibrous substrate is dried to form a paper product having enhanced printing characteristics.

Method for producing paper

A method of producing paper and board by using at least one water-soluble amphoteric polymer is provided. The water-soluble amphoteric polymer is obtained by copolymerizing a monomer mixture containing a) at least one N-vinylcarboxamide, b) at least one monoethylenically unsaturated monomer having at least one free acid group or at least one acid group in salt form, c) optionally at least one monoethylenically unsaturated monomer other than components (a) and (b), and d) optionally at least one compound having two or more ethylenically unsaturated double bonds, and then partly or wholly hydrolyzing the COR.sup.1 groups of the polymer. The cationic monomer units and the anionic monomer units differ in their respective molar fractions, each based on the total number of moles of all monomer units, by not more than 10 mol % in absolute terms.

Method for producing paper

A method of producing paper and board by using at least one water-soluble amphoteric polymer is provided. The water-soluble amphoteric polymer is obtained by copolymerizing a monomer mixture containing a) at least one N-vinylcarboxamide, b) at least one monoethylenically unsaturated monomer having at least one free acid group or at least one acid group in salt form, c) optionally at least one monoethylenically unsaturated monomer other than components (a) and (b), and d) optionally at least one compound having two or more ethylenically unsaturated double bonds, and then partly or wholly hydrolyzing the COR.sup.1 groups of the polymer. Water-dispersible composite structure and method of producing the same

A water-dispersible composite structure, which comprises one or more layers, and a method of producing the same. At least a part of the layers is formed by a fibrous web or sheet containing 50-90 parts by weight of wood fibers and 10-90 parts by weight of annual or perennial plant fibers and/or 10-50 parts by weight of synthetic short-cut fibers, and 0.1-20% by weight of a binder, calculated from the weight of the fibers, and at least a part of the binder being a water-soluble polymer and another part a water dispersible binder, and the fibrous sheet or web being produced by wet forming. By means of the invention, the fibers of the composite structure can be recovered and recycled by equipment conventionally used in the paper and paperboard industry.

METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING A BARRIER FILM COMPRISING HIGHLY REFINED CELLULOSE

The present invention relates to a method for manufacturing a barrier film comprising highly refined cellulose, said method comprising: a) providing a highly refined cellulose pulp suspension comprising highly refined cellulose pulp having a Schopper-Riegler (SR) number in the range of 40-98 as determined by standard ISO 5267-1 and a content of fibers having a length >0.2 mm of at least 7 million fibers per gram based on dry weight, at a consistency in the range of 0.1-1.5 wt %; b) forming a web of the highly refined cellulose pulp suspension and dewatering the web in a paper machine former on a wire to a consistency of at least 5 wt % to obtain a substrate web, wherein the white water removed from the pulp contains 2-25 wt %, preferably 5-20 wt % and more preferably at least 5-15 wt % of the solids of the highly refined cellulose pulp suspension provided in step a); c) optionally further dewatering and optionally drying the substrate web; d) coating the optionally further dewatered and optionally dried substrate web with a coating suspension comprising cellulose fines or microfibrillated cellulose to obtain a coated web; and e) dewatering and/or drying the coated web to obtain a barrier film comprising highly refined cellulose.

METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING A BARRIER FILM COMPRISING HIGHLY REFINED CELLULOSE

The present invention relates to a method for manufacturing a barrier film comprising highly refined cellulose, said method comprising: a) providing a highly refined cellulose pulp suspension comprising highly refined cellulose pulp having a Schopper-Riegler (SR) number in the range of 40-98 as determined by standard ISO 5267-1 and a content of fibers having a length >0.2 mm of at least 7 million fibers per gram based on dry weight, at a consistency in the range of 0.1-1.5 wt %; b) forming a web of the highly refined cellulose pulp suspension and dewatering the web in a paper machine former on a wire to a consistency of at least 5 wt % to obtain a substrate web, wherein the white water removed from the pulp contains 2-25 wt %, preferably 5-20 wt % and more preferably at least 5-15 wt % of the solids of the highly refined cellulose pulp suspension provided in step a); c) optionally further dewatering and optionally drying the substrate web; d) coating the optionally further dewatered and optionally dried substrate web with a coating suspension comprising cellulose fines or microfibrillated cellulose to obtain a coated web; and e) dewatering and/or drying the coated web to obtain a barrier film comprising highly refined cellulose.

Paperboard and a method of producing a paperboard

The invention discloses a paperboard comprising a base ply, a top ply, and an intermediate layer disposed in-between the at least one base ply and the top ply. The intermediate layer comprises pigment and microfibrillated cellulose (MFC). The application of an intermediate layer comprising pigment and MFC in-between the base ply and the top ply gives rise to improved optical properties of the paperboard, even when using an uncoated top ply having a low grammage This makes it possible to reduce the grammage of the top ply and still obtain good optical properties.

Paperboard and a method of producing a paperboard

The invention discloses a paperboard comprising a base ply, a top ply, and an intermediate layer disposed in-between the at least one base ply and the top ply. The intermediate layer comprises pigment and microfibrillated cellulose (MFC). The application of an intermediate layer comprising pigment and MFC in-between the base ply and the top ply gives rise to improved optical properties of the paperboard, even when using an uncoated top ply having a low grammage This makes it possible to reduce the grammage of the top ply and still obtain good optical properties.
