Method and system for monitoring the loading of a tamping unit

The invention relates to a method for load monitoring of a tamping unit of a track maintenance machine, wherein at least one sensor is arranged for recording a load on the tamping unit. In this, measuring data recorded by means of the sensor are stored over a time period (T) in an evaluation device, wherein at least one load-time progression for cyclical penetration operations of the tamping unit into a ballast bed is derived from the stored measuring data. With this, conclusions can be drawn as to the load stress situation of the tamping unit and the condition of the ballast bed.

A derail alarm system for notifying a tamping machine operator that a tamping projector buggy is in a derailed condition. A rail sensor with an ultrasonic beam attaches to a tamping projector buggy to sense alignment with a metal rail. When the ultrasonic sensor detects an out-of-tolerance condition, aural and red-LED light visual indications are electronically provided to the tamping machine operator. The tamping machine operator may disable the aural indication and change the red-LED indication to an amber-LED indication until the ultrasonic sensor detects an in-tolerance condition. A limit switch deactivates the cradle sensor when the tamping projector buggy is raised and stored in the travel position for a higher speed transport condition.

A method includes: taking a topographical survey of a plurality of geographical points near a structure to be built, the position of each point being determined in an absolute frame of reference XYZ; installing a plurality of reflectors, each reflector being placed at a geographical point of the topographical survey; measuring distances between reflectors and optical devices, using at least three optical devices fixed on a moving arm of an insertion device that bears an element to be inserted; computing, by trilateration, the absolute position of the arm of the insertion device from the measured distances and from the known position of each optical reflector; and moving the arm of the insertion device based on the computed absolute position, so as to bring the element to be inserted into a predetermined implantation position.

Method and device for stabilizing a track

A method for stabilizing a track having sleepers supported on a track ballast and rails secured to the sleepers, includes using a stabilizing unit which is connected to a machine frame that can be moved on the rails and has a vibration exciter and rollers that can roll on the rails. The vibration exciter generates in particular horizontal vibrations which run transversely to the track longitudinal direction. The course of a force exerted onto the track by the stabilizing unit is recorded over a vibration path during a vibration cycle by sensors. At least one parameter is derived from the course by an evaluation device and is used to evaluate the stabilizing procedure and/or the quality of the track ballast. A device for implementing the method is also provided.

Metal abrasive module for machining rails

A vehicle for machining a rail by grinding and/or planing, including a metal abrasive module, an eccentric drive performing an eccentric movement, at least two abrasive blocks connected with the eccentric drive, and a force exerting drive pressing at least one abrasive block onto the rail, wherein the metal abrasive module and/or at least one of the abrasive blocks is individually tiltable around an axis parallel to the rail, and wherein at least one of the abrasive blocks is individually pressable onto the rail. This allows a more effective and improved metal removal and rail shaping capabilities.

Track maintenance machine and measurement method for a track maintenance machine

A track maintenance machine, with a sensor for identifying an A-point of a chord, having a frame, axles, and wheels operatively connected to the axles and configured to support the machine on a track. A workhead is arranged between the axles. A B-point is placed at the workhead at a predetermined height above the track, and a C-point placed at a rear end of the at a predetermined height above the track. A sensor is arranged at a forward end of the frame at a predetermined height above the track. The sensor scans forward of the machine to identify an A-point; acquire track data for the A-point; and transmit the data to a machine control system. The machine control system is configured to calculate a chord by combining the track data for the A-point with the C-point to calculate operation data for the workhead at the B-point.
