SURFACE WATER MANAGEMENT SYSTEM INCLUDING WEIR WALL AND DETENTION POND
An integrated system comprising a barrier, such as a weir with movable gates, controllably blocks water flow in a natural or concrete lined channel. Without substantially impeding flow in normal conditions, the barrier is configured to back up flood waters to spill into an upstream prepared detention basin. Water is thus kept from downstream areas until subsequently drained through a controlled spill. Multiple units installed in a watershed can store significant amounts of flood water, e.g., during a hurricane, protecting life and property downstream.
The electromechanically-operated gates can be operated locally or from a remote control center. Gauges and sensors positioned near the weir and/or throughout the watershed can provide data used to control one or more barriers in the watershed, and the data may be used to train a machine learning model to control the system.
GATE, LEAF AND METHOD FOR CONTROLLING WATER LEVELS IN A BODY OF WATER
A gate, leaf, and method for controlling water levels in a body of water. The gate comprises a moveable barrier (which may be a leaf), a restoring device such as a spring, and a profile. The barrier automatically opens or closes an amount to allow less or more water through as a result of changes in the water pressure in the upstream body of water. This helps maintain a water level in the upstream body of water. The profile disturbs the flow of water through the gate to influence the water pressure on the barrier. The profile may help provide a more linear curve for the water moment on the barrier across the range of barrier positions. A more linear curve for the water moment may help maintain equilibrium with the restoring moment across the range of barrier positions. The method comprises disturbing the flow of water over a barrier to redistribute the pressures of the water on the barrier.
Flood Protection
The invention concerns a flood protection for protecting a back area against rising water level from a front area, the flood protection operating between a bottom and a water surface, including at least one barrier element with a longitudinal direction and a height direction, the longitudinal direction during operation extending substantially transversely of an area, e.g. a stream, a fjord, a river or an estuary, and the height direction during operation extending from the bottom of an area, e.g. a stream, a fjord, a river or an estuary, and up, where the at least one barrier element during operation interacts with a base arranged at the bottom of the actual area. The invention also concerns a method for operating such a flood protection. The new feature of the flood protection according to the invention is that it includes a movable and buoyancy balanced barrier element that includes an adjustable ballast system for regulating the buoyancy balance, the base of the flood protection including a bottom rail system, and the barrier elements including contact means arranged for contact with the bottom rail system.
Rapidly deployable flood defence system
The present invention is a rapidly deployable flood defense system and method that has at least one barrier cover, each comprising a plurality of laterally-extending crossbeam housing tubes stacked generally vertically and housing an inflatable crossbeam disposed within the tube, an end retaining tab at each end of the tube, and a plurality of rear support retaining tabs spaced along the lateral length of the crossbeam housing tube; and a front apron and a rear apron. The system also has a plurality of support tubes and a plurality of additional support tubes positioned along the lateral length of the crossbeam housing tube. Each support tube held in the generally vertical direction by a base post and each and additional support tube positioned along the lateral length of the crossbeam housing tube having an additional base post positioned rearwardly.

FLOW RATE DETERMINATION BASED ON LIMITED OBSERVATIONS
Methods, systems and computer program products for determining an accurate flow rate based on limited observations are provided. Aspects include receiving a limited sample of flow rate data associated with a test site of a test river. Aspects also include determining topographical characteristics of the test site. Aspects also include determining a plurality of similar tested sites and generating a test site rating curve based on a combination of the limited sample of flow rate data and sufficient flow rate data associated with one or more of the plurality of similar tested sites. Aspects also include obtaining a stage reading associated with the test site from a sensor disposed at the test site. Aspects also include determining a flow rate of the test site based on the stage reading and the test site rating curve.
Flood Defense System
A flood defense system for homes, structures and other buildings consisting of a watertight film (16) adhered by a sealant tape (10,12,14). The film (16) has high elongation properties to stretch and fill gaps, cracks, and other paths of liquids into buildings. The sealant tape (10,12,14) has high tack properties and is thick such that it can conform to textured surfaces which are often found on exterior walls. Together the sealant tape (10,12,14) and film (16) form a watertight seal which can be rapidly applied and later removed with no modification to existing building.
