A rod for collecting water or transporting water structured to result in capillary spaces between it and other similar-shaped rods when such rods are adjacent to one another. The rod has a cross-sectional shape with one surface portion of the rod being a greater distance from the center of the rod than another surface portion of the rod. The rods can be laid together in an assembly or prefabricated into an assembly that provides an efficient, high capacity water collection and/or transportation system that is resistant to clogging.

A method of drying frac sand without heat is comprised of constructing a drainage system and placing sand on top of a perforated top layer thereon. The drainage system has multiple layers through which liquid passes to dewater sand resting thereon. At the bottom of the drainage system, perforated collection pipes, at least partially surrounded by rocks, collect and carry the liquid to a collection pond for reuse. A cellular confinement layer has sections of panels which, upon expansion, have cells filled with rocks. A woven monofilament geotextile fabric layer comprising woven monofilament geotextile fabric sheets sewn together has sized openings which allow fluid, but prevent sand from passing through the openings. The top layer comprises high density polyethylene perforated sheets welded together. A watertight liner sits below the collection pipes and the cellular confinement layer. Protective layers above and below the watertight liner prevent rocks from damaging same.

A set of three tubular drainage units, each comprised of expanded recycled polystyrene aggregate which is gray in color, is wrapped in film which optionally compresses the drainage units radially and which impedes transmission of infra-red radiation to the aggregate when the drainage units are exposed to sunlight during shipping or storage.

An elongate rigid spacer is fitted within the interior volume of the elongate outer cover, with the elongate spacer allowing the majority of the interior volume to be unfilled so as to permit the flow of fluid along and within the elongate outer cover.
