Paravane for floating barrier A paravane (20) including at least one foil with a first side, a second side, a leading end, a trailing end, a top and a bottom, wherein at least one foil is straight (1) and at least one second foil is curved (2), where one side of the straight foil and the other side of the curving foil are interconnected by a number of stays (3), where at least one foil is connected at the top to at least a first buoyant body (10) and that at least the one plane at the bottom is connected to at least one ballast element (13), and that at the second side of the straight foil there are at least one towline (8) and a tow eye (9) by which there is achieved a paravane (20) that can keep an arrangement of lines, nets, floats in a water body in a position suitable for performing the task.

A METHOD AND A SYSTEM FOR COLLECTING FLOATING OBJECTS ON A SURFACE OF WATER

A method and system for collecting objects floating on or suspended near a surface of water. A collecting system is employed comprising a floating barrier. The collecting system is unanchored to or on the seabed such that the collecting system is free to move along the surface of the water. A submerged portion and non-submerged portion is provided connected to the floating barrier, such that a velocity of the floating barrier along the surface of the water differs from a surface velocity of the water at the location of the floating barrier. Collected plastic objects can be recycled. Further, the ocean currents are followed while being able to collect plastic.

Surface Containment System

A surface containment system to contain liquid contaminates escaping from a vessel, the containment system having in one example: a water and oil impermeable barrier liner positioned below the vessel; a perimeter wall surrounding the vessel, the perimeter wall extending vertically from the ground surface and supporting a portion of the barrier liner so as to form a containment reservoir; at least one fluid conduit through the barrier liner, the fluid conduit having a filter configured to retain contaminates and configured to allow water to pass by way of gravity from the reservoir through the impermeable barrier; the perimeter wall formed of a plurality of wall panels connected by way of struts each having a vertical component, a base component anchored to ground.

SORBENT-BASED OIL SKIMMER AND METHODS OF USE

A sorbent-based oil skimmer is configured to collect oil from an oil layer and passively deposit the oil in an encasing, where the oil can be continuously or periodically removed. The oil skimmer includes an encasing and a sponge that is partially enclosed within the encasing. The sponge has a top sheet in contact with the oil layer and a shell connected to the top sheet, where the shell extends into the encasing. Oil collected by the top sheet is conveyed through the shell, where it is deposited into the encasing under the force of gravity. In some applications, the sponge is manufactured from a silicone-based polymer that has been impregnated with carbonaceous material. The skimmer may optionally include counterweights, ballast tanks, buoyancy adjustment systems and propulsion modules.

Buoyant containment and/or filtration

Embodiments disclosed here include a containment system and methods of containment which may include a segmented buoyant rim. Certain embodiments also include an inflatable rim with at least one inflation/deflation valve in the rim segments and ballast in the rim segments. Additionally, certain embodiments include material connected to the rim segments, to enclose a void created in the rim and to hang below the buoyant rim.

Systems, apparatus and methods for collecting debris from a body of water

Systems, apparatus and methods useful for collecting debris from a body of water on a vessel having at least one cargo compartment and at least a first pump fluidly coupled to at least one cargo compartment and configured to concurrently draw water and debris from the body of water into, and remove water from, the cargo compartment(s) include at least a second pump, distinct from the first pump and configured to remove debris from at least one cargo compartment.

A WAVE-POWERED TOWING APPARATUS

A towing apparatus has a spine with multiple generally parallel spine members extending in a longitudinal direction and having a length of at least 100 m, and with a leading end and a trailing end. A series of blades are mounted to the spine by couplers which allow the blade to rotate about an axis substantially transverse to the longitudinal direction, each blade having a first surface facing generally in the trailing end direction and a second surface facing generally in the leading end direction. Restraints prevent rotation of each blade by more than a pre-set amount towards the leading end, so that impingement of a wave on the first surface applies a force to the apparatus in the leading end direction. A pair of the towing apparatus' may be arranged to connect to a floating collector with a beach shape to collect floating debris on the sea surface, ridges helping to retain the debris on the slope until it is washed up into a channel.

A method of fabricating an coating includes providing a coating comprising a base material. The base material is coated with an inorganic material using at least one of an atomic layer deposition (ALD), a molecular layer deposition (MLD), or sequential infiltration synthesis (SIS) process. The SIS process includes at least one cycle of exposing the coating to a first metal precursor for a first predetermined time and a first partial pressure. The first metal precursor infiltrates at least a portion of the base material and binds with the base material. The coating is exposed to a second co-reactant precursor for a second predetermined time and a second partial pressure. The second co-reactant precursor reacts with the first metal precursor, thereby forming the inorganic material on the base material. The inorganic material infiltrating at least the portion of the base material. The inorganic material is functionalized with a material.
