A system for retaining a flowable and curable building material to form a portion of a foundation includes side walls disposed in a predetermined configuration having a first side wall and a second side wall, and at least one component having an interior cavity disposed in one of the side walls. A bracket assembly includes an outwardly bounding reinforcement post for each of the side walls, a separator bar having a plurality of apertures sized to receive and retain each of the reinforcement posts at locations corresponding to nominal widths of the at least one component. A barrier is disposed between the outwardly bounding posts. The barrier and the component in the side wall is retained in the foundation after the building material cures. The barrier prevents backfill from filling a volume between the outwardly bounding posts.

Membrane-lined wall

A membrane-lined wall for levee reinforcement or leak prevention, prevention of water migration, and pollution control of impoundments. The membrane-lined wall generally includes a cementitious or concrete wall formed within an excavated trench. The concrete may be internally reinforced, and the wall may also comprise a double-layer of impermeable geomembrane liner that forms a barrier between the concrete and the sides and bottom of the trench. The membrane or liner reduces water migration, prevents levee leakage, and prevents the escape of contaminants in impoundments.

The present invention relates generally to a below grade, blind side, dual waterproofing membrane assembly incorporating a sheet membrane with adhesive to fully bond to concrete/shotcrete, and a method of making and using same. More particularly, the invention encompasses a dual membrane system that acts as a barrier, and prevents, and blocks water and moisture, from passing from one side of the structure to the other side. The innovative barrier layer system can be used along a wall, a floor, a ceiling, or along any structure which requires water or moisture proofing. The invention can be most effectively used between a concrete or shotcrete layer and the surrounding earth, such as, along an area that has a high water table or ground moisture or hydrostatic pressure that may creep into a foundation or a wall.

A method of limiting or reducing liquid and/or gas inflow through a porous matrix, comprising delivering to said porous matrix a coagulable polymer emulsion or colloid for contacting with at least one selected additive which interacts with said polymer emulsion or colloid to form a sealing barrier to reduce liquid and/or gas inflow through the porous matrix wherein said coagulable polymer emulsion or colloid contains at least one selected additive including one or a combination of radiation stabilisers to confer radiation resistance; and wherein said sealing barrier is formed by contacting said polymer emulsion or colloid with a further selected additive to cause coagulation of said polymer emulsion or colloid to form said sealing barrier. The sealing composition, which has low toxicity, preferably contains carbon black as radiation stabiliser conferring radiation resistance for the sealing barrier in the range 1 to 100 MRad.
