Underwater excavation apparatus

There is disclosed an excavation apparatus (5), such as an underwater excavation apparatus, having means for producing, in use, at least one vortex, spiral or turbulent flow in a laminar flow of fluid, e.g. water. The excavation apparatus (5) comprises a rotor (10) having a rotor rotation axis (A), wherein, in use, flow of fluid past or across the rotor (10) is at a first angle (a) from the axis of rotation (A). The excavation apparatus (5) comprises the rotor (5) and means or an arrangement for dampening reactive torque on the apparatus (5) caused by rotation of the rotor (10), in use. The turbulent flow is provided within, such as within a (transverse) cross-section, of the laminar flow.

The present Application discloses a trenching device with two operational modes, Mode 1 and mode 2. In Mode 1, the trenching lever is disengaged, the device does not trench, but only functions as a transporting unit in a forward direction with a maximum speed. In Mode 2, the trenching lever is engaged, the device starts trenching, but stops functioning as a transporting unit.

In a first configuration, a maximum span of the boulder clearance member in an extended position is greater than a span of the spoil clearance member. The plough may be reconfigurable to include a backfill member. A method of use of the plough is provided in a boulder clearing only mode, and optional modes of simultaneous boulder clearing and trenching, second pass trenching, and backfilling a trench to bury a flexible elongate member in a seabed.

The control architecture may include a first actuator, a second actuator, a third actuator, a user input interface, a storage medium having a control algorithm, and a controller configured to execute the control algorithm to: receive a target grade request from one or more of the user input interface and a storage medium; receive a dipper stick position relative to the pivot axis; receive a direction of movement of the dipper stick; determine whether the dipper stick position is outside the pivot axis or inside the pivot axis; and operate the first actuator in automatic mode to automatically adjust the pivot axis height relative to the frame when the dipper stick position and the direction of movement of the dipper stick are within the automatic control region for automatically maintaining a target grade.

An earth working implement has a main frame, a main blade supported on the main frame transversely to the forward direction, and two wing blades pivotally supported at opposing ends of the main blade for movement between forward and rearward projecting orientations. A tilt actuator controls angular orientation of the main blade relative to the main frame about a lateral axis. Two rear wheels support the rear end of the frame for rolling along the ground. A hitch arm extends forwardly from a pivotal connection of the main frame for connection to a towing vehicle so as to vary in angular orientation relative to the main frame independently of the main blade. Furrow openers in a laterally spaced apart row are movable relative to the main frame between a working position protruding below the cutting edge of the main blade and a raised storage position.

A system and method for installing a membrane-lined wall for levee reinforcement or leak prevention. The installation system may comprise a sled positioned above the trench having a length, and may comprise a frame and support members, and a weight suspension system mounted on the frame to lower an elongated weight into the trench. The liner installation sled may also include a liner roller rotatably mounted on the frame, the liner roller adapted to hold a roll of a liner above the surface on a first side of the trench when the liner installation sled is in an installation position relative to the trench, wherein a longitudinal axis of the roll of liner can be aligned with the length of the trench. The elongated weight is usable to force the liner into the trench.
