SHINGLES WITH A THICK APPEARANCE

A shingle comprises an overlay, an underlay, and a height increasing material disposed between the overlay and the underlay. The height increasing material includes a first adhesive adhered to the overlay, height increasing granules adhered to the first adhesive, and a second adhesive adhered to the height increasing granules and the underlay. The height increasing material can extend along front ends of tab portions of the overlay, along front cutout edges that extend between tab portions of the overlay, or both.

Smart shingles

At least one shingle is integrated with logic circuitry and various other components which enable high-level functionality and automated system diagnostics. Each shingle can automatically determine its absolute position on a rooftop and/or its position relative to other shingles in the smart shingle system. Each shingle can also detect various changes in its own power generation, efficiency, and/or operating conditions, as well as those of neighboring shingles. Each shingle can then leverage this information to conduct system diagnostics and possibly to generate and/or execute recommended solutions. In another embodiment, each shingle can be coupled to a centralized controller which can perform the same automapping and diagnostic functions. The controller can also monitor the power usage of the building to help optimize the power generation of the smart shingle system. In some embodiments, the smart shingle system can be outfitted with heating components and/or actuators to help automate the process of keeping the smart shingles clear of debris.

Roofing panels for concealing a biocidal source are described. In embodiments, the roofing panels include a body having as top side, a bottom side parallel with the top side, a front edge, a rear edge, and a left edge. The roofing panels may further include a first sidewall, a second sidewall, and one or more standoffs. The first and second sidewalls may have a tapered sidewall height that provides a gap between the body of the roofing panel and underlying material. The roofing panel may be installed over a biocidal source on a roof, concealing the biocidal source from view while still allowing liquid (e.g., water) to flow over the biocidal source.

Fastener-Protecting Roofing Shingle

A fastener-protecting roofing shingle provides a solution for roofing nails or fasteners that become damaged due to weather exposure resulting from damaged roofing shingles. A nailing line is placed above a seamline rather than on or below the seamline, as is conventionally found. By placing the nailing line further from the seamline, which typically borders the exposed and the overlapped sections of a shingle, nails are better-protected from being exposed to the elements, which decreases the chances of failure due to the nail rusting. Due to the shift in the nailing line, a spotted adhesive may be positioned approximately two inches below the nailing line for improved rooftop adherence, and the length of a solid section may be increased. Furthermore, the apparatus directs rainwater straight down the roof. Solid adhesive strips prevent water from pooling or leaking laterally out to the sides and into other layers of shingling.

ROOF INTEGRATED PHOTOVOLTAIC SYSTEM

A roof integrated photovoltaic system includes a starter bar having a foot base and configured to be installed to a roof deck, a plurality of water shedding layers, and a photovoltaic module. One of the plurality of water shedding layers is configured to be installed over the foot base of the starter bar, and one of another of which is configured to overlap and be installed over the one of the plurality of water shedding layers. The system further includes a foot module configured to be attached to an upper portion of the photovoltaic module. A lower portion of the photovoltaic module is configured to align with the foot base of the starter bar, and the foot module is configured to be affixed on a last overlapping layer of the plurality of water shedding layers to the roof deck.
