A germicidal system includes a handle for opening a door or compartment. An ultra-violet illuminator is mounted proximate the handle for irradiating a surface of the handle to reduce pathogens from the handle between uses. The illuminator can include at least one LED that emits in ultra-violet wavelengths. A sensor can be included proximate the handle. A controller can be operatively connected to the sensor and to the illuminator. The controller can be configured to activate the illuminator based on detection of a user by the sensor. The controller can be configured to activate the illuminator for a predetermined amount of time for each use of the handle.

The status indicator is configured to display a first indicium in the display area when the lock apparatus is in the first state, and is configured to display a second indicium in the display area when the lock apparatus is in the second state.

The handle portion is pivotable between a non-deployed orientation, where an outer surface of the handle portion is coplanar with an outer surface of the vehicular door at the exterior door handle region, and a deployed orientation, where the handle portion is pivoted inward into a door handle pocket within the vehicular door. The light projection device is operable to project an icon or character onto the outer surface of the handle portion when the handle portion is in the deployed orientation. The light projection device projects the icon or character responsive to the handle portion pivoting to the deployed orientation.

A window pattern is positioned on the rear side of the shell such that the light source is operable to project onto the door a light pattern corresponding to the window pattern.

A locking device can be embedded flush into a surface and is intended for locking flaps of an aircraft. The locking device includes a plate and a locking element, which is actuatable thereby. In a locked state of the locking device, the plate is flush with the surface and, in an open state, the plate projects from the surface. At least some faces of the locking device, which are situated on an inside with respect to the surface in the locked state and are visible only in the open state, are coated with photoluminescent material.
