In one aspect, the disclosure relates to an apparatus that can be installed on an existing door to provide improved security. The apparatus comprises a first and a second door bracket that is installed on the interior and exterior surface of a door, respectively, that together increase the strength of the door in the region near the door handle and/or deadbolt. The apparatus also comprises a door frame bar that is installed on the door frame opposing a vertical outside edge of a door. The apparatus also comprises one or more door hinge bars that are mounted on the interior surface of the door near one or more door hinges. The apparatus may further comprise a reinforcing bar. A hinge assembly includes a hinge plate having a pin-receiving portion at a first end defining a passageway along the first end, and including a plurality of mounting holes. A pivot arm has a pin-receiving portion at a first end defining a passageway that is substantially coaxial with the passageway of the hinge plate. A hinge pin is disposed in the passageways to pivotally couple the pivot arm to the hinge plate. The pivot arm is pivotable between a closed position and an open position. The pivot arm includes a domed portion forming a cavity positioned to overlie one of the mounting holes in the hinge plate when the pivot arm is in the closed position.

An external hinge is provided for pivotally connecting a door to a sidewall while obtaining at least 180 degrees of opening movement or degree of rotation. The external hinge is substantially concealed behind the sidewall and the door in a fully closed position of the door. In one embodiment, the external hinge comprises a first curved arm extending between a first pivot pin of a first part mounted on an interior surface of the sidewall and a second pivot pin of a second part mounted on an interior surface of the door. The external hinge further comprises a second curved arm extending between a third pivot pin of the first part mounted on the interior surface of the sidewall and a fourth pivot pin of the second part mounted on the interior surface of the door.

There is provided a hinge system and/or a slip hinge. The system may include a door or window having a sash and a slip hinge. The slip hinge may include: a pin; a base member including a first mounting plate and a first hinge portion, the first mounting plate engaging a frame defining an opening receiving the door or window, and the first hinge portion having a first recess to receive the pin; and a rotating member including a second mounting plate and a second hinge portion, the second mounting plate engaging the sash and the second hinge portion having a second recess to receive the pin; wherein a cross-section of at least one of the first and second hinge portions is substantially polygonal in shape with at least two sides that are not parallel to one another. The present disclosure concerns a closure system comprising a closure hinged to a fame by a hinge device that permits transition of the closure between open and closed positions by a combined linear movement and rotational displacement.
