SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR DRILLING MUD ANALYSIS, LOGGING AND DRILLING CONTROL

Analysis and logging of drilling mud using a mud analysis system and controlling drilling operations responsive to the mud analysis and logging. The system and methods may automatically sample and analyze drilling mud and control the drilling of a well responsive to the mud analysis. The mud analysis system may acquire measurements on a sample of the drilling mud during drilling and may send signals indicative of the drilling mud to a steering control system enabled to control the drilling.

ITERATIVE CLUSTERING FOR GEOSTEERING INVERSION

System and methods for geosteering inversion are provided. Downhole tool responses are predicted for different points along a planned path of a wellbore during a downhole operation, based on each of a plurality of inversion models. Measurements of the downhole tool's actual responses are obtained as the wellbore is drilled over the different points during a current stage of the operation. The inversion models are clustered based on a comparison between the actual and predicted tool responses and a randomly selected centroid for each cluster. The inversion models are re-clustered using an average inversion model determined for each cluster as the centroid for that cluster. At least one of the re-m clustered inversion models is used to perform inversion for one or more subsequent stages of the downhole operation along the planned wellbore path. The planned wellbore path is adjusted for the subsequent stage(s) of the downhole operation.

Underground horizontal directional drill

Embodiments of the present disclosure relate generally to underground horizontal directional drills and, more particularly, to aspects of drill operation, ground anchoring, and operator assistance features. In some embodiments, a drill is provided that includes an anchor assembly and/or a rear stabilizer that may pivot relative to a carriage frame of the drill. In other embodiments, a roller bearing system that permits the carriage to translate along the carriage frame is provided. In still other embodiments, rests to support the drill rod during makeup and breakout are described.

Pullback system for drilling tool

A rotary drill bit for use with a horizontal directional drill string. A coupler at a proximal axial end is configured to attach the rotary drill bit to a drill head at a distal end of the drill string. A cutting portion at a distal axial end is provided with a plurality of vanes with respective cutters that operate to cut a hole in earth when the rotary drill bit is rotated about a central axis. The plurality of vanes project radially outwardly from a surface of the cutting portion such that the surface forms respective troughs circumferentially interspersed with the plurality of vanes. A plurality of engagement features is positioned axially within the cutting portion and radially inward of an outer cutting diameter to facilitate attachment of a product pullback device between the plurality of vanes without removing the rotary drill bit, or any portion thereof, from the drill head.

Avoiding geological formation boundaries during drilling operations

Systems and methods for generating a curtain plot that includes two inverted parameters based on the formation boundaries and the formation resistivity, the uncertainties of the formation boundaries, and the uncertainties of the drilled well-path, generating an updated curtain plot that includes two projected inverted parameters based on updated formation boundaries and updated formation resistivity, the projected uncertainties of the updated formation boundaries, and the projected uncertainties of the planned well-path, and avoiding, by the drilling operations, the uncertainties of the formation boundaries of the curtain plot and the updated curtain plot based on the two inverted parameters and the two projected inverted parameters to maintain or adjust the planned well-path within the projected uncertainties of the planned well-path.
