A downhole tubing rotator that has a housing configured into a production tubing string in a well in a reservoir, the housing being generally cylindrical with a hollow center and containing a two pole, three phase induction squirrel cage motor operatively connected to a tubing rotator configured to clamp onto a production tubing joint and rotate one or more production tubing joints (but not an entire production tubing string) when the motor is activated. An armor-protected insulated power and control cable connects the motor to a control box positioned at a surface of a reservoir and various sensors provide feedback for the unit. Methods of using this tool are also provided.

Stripline Energy Transmission in a Wellbore

A downhole energy transmission system is described. The system can include a tubing string having a number of tubing pipe disposed within an annulus formed by a casing string disposed within a wellbore, where the tubing string has at least one wall forming a cavity. The system can also include a remote electrical device disposed within the cavity of the tubing string at a first location. The system can further include a first stripline cable disposed on an outer surface of the tubing string, where the first stripline cable transmits a first electromagnetic directional traveling wave received from an energy source. The system can also include a second stripline cable disposed adjacent to the first stripline cable at the first location, where the second stripline cable is electrically coupled to the remote electrical device.

Linear Brushless Contact Slip For High Pressure and High Temperature Downhole Application
20170298697 · 2017-10-19 ·

A linear electrical contact slip structure for conducting electricity between two regions of a tool string while deployed within a wellbore. The linear electrical contact slip maintains an electrical connection between a piston structure and a collar structure, where either structure can be a stroker section or a stator section, and where the electrical connection is maintained when the stoker section is either stationary or in motion. The electrical connections between the piston and collar are grouped along the interior hollow surface of the collar, corresponding to contacts on the exterior of the piston head. The piston and collar are configured to prevent relative rotational motion, but to allow relative linear motion, by use of projections from the piston that match grooves in the collar.

COMPOSITE SLICKLINE COMMUNICATION
20170328198 · 2017-11-16 ·

A communication system, comprises a composite slickline including an electrical conductor surrounded by an electrically insulating structural material, a downhole tool; and a sensing element. The composite slickline is mechanically and electrically coupled to the downhole tool and extends from the downhole tool to the sensing element. The composite slickline and the sensing element are capacitively coupled so as to permit relative movement therebetween and so as to permit an electric field to extend from the electrical conductor of the composite slickline to the sensing element through the electrically insulating structural material of the composite slickline for the transmission of an electrical and/or an electromagnetic signal between the downhole tool and the sensing element via the composite slickline.

Insulating component
09777538 · 2017-10-03 ·

An insulating component for inclusion in a down hole drill string comprising a first part or connected group of parts, and a second part or group of parts. The first part or group of parts includes a first connection site and the second part or connected group of parts includes a second connection site. The insulating component also includes a first right-hand threaded connection located between the first connection site and the second connection site, and a second, left-hand threaded connection located between the first connection site and the second connection site. The first part or group of parts is electrically insulated from the second part or group of parts through insulating material provided between the first part or group of parts and the second part or group of parts, so that the first and second connection sites are electrically insulated from one another.

METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR DIRECTIONAL DRILLING USING WIRED DRILL PIPE
20170241253 · 2017-08-24 ·

A method for drilling a wellbore includes rotating a drill string having a steerable drilling motor proximate a distal end thereof in a wellbore to a selected tool face angle. A torque applied to the drill string and a rotational orientation of the drill string is measured at spaced apart positions along the drill string. The drill string is rotated in a first direction until rotation at one of the selected positions is measured. Rotation of the drill string is reversed to a second direction until rotation of the drill string at the one of the selected positions is measured. Rotation of the drill string is reversed to the first direction until a torque measured at at least one position along the drill string corresponds to a torque measured when drill string rotation was reversed from the first direction.
