Subsea connection
A subsea connection includes an umbilical termination head having a termination head housing and at least one first connecting line, each of which has a first mating device; a subsea base unit having a base unit housing and at least one second connecting line, each of which has a second mating device that is connectable with a corresponding first mating device; and a locking device for locking the termination head to the subsea base unit. The second mating device is fixed to a stab plate and kept in a retracted position before connection of the termination head with the base unit, and the stab plate and the second mating device are arranged to move relative to the base unit housing during connection.
SYSTEM FOR COMPENSATING HEAVING FOR AN ELEMENT HOOKED ONTO MOVABLE EQUIPMENT
The present invention relates to a motion compensation system for an element hanging from a mobile unit, the system comprising two blocks, at least two articulated arms, a compensation cylinder and a cable. According to the invention, at least one characteristic length of the articulated system (for example: the length of a link or the distance between two sheaves of two articulated arms) is adjusted according to the motion to be compensated for.
ROTATING DRILLING TOWERS
Two or more rotating towers on a drilling rig may be configured to rotate between one or more wells. The rotating towers may have a common well center, such that the two or more towers can operate over the same well to provide redundant or cooperative operations. Some example cooperative operations include heavy lifting and/or isochronous tripping operations. Redundancy can be provided by the two or more rotating towers to prevent equipment failures from halting operations.
Sanitary check valve to prevent well contamination
A sanitary check valve arranged between a drop and outlet pipes in a water well casing that will prevent operate to block a back flow of water through the drop pipe when pumping from a water source is discontinued as could contaminate that water source. The valve is for fitting into an actuator fitting body that mounts between the drop and outlet pipes opposite ends and includes a side plate for releasable coupling to a separate actuator mount that connects through the well casing and includes a drain pipe. The drop and outlet pipes fitted to the fitting body are lowered into the well casing to where the side plate edges slid between parallel sides of the mount, coupling the assembly together such that an upward water flow moves the float valve off of the drop pipe end to pass that flow through the outlet pipe for use, and, when that upward flow is stopped, the valve closes over the drop pipe end and opens to the mount drain pipe to a water flow that dumps outside the well casing.
Real-time tracking and mitigating of bending fatigue in coiled tubing
A coiled tubing deployment system includes an offshore rig having a reel positioned thereon and coiled tubing wound on the reel. A guide arch receives the coiled tubing from the reel and a monitoring support guide fixed to the offshore rig receives and directs the coiled tubing into water. The monitoring support guide has a frame and at least two hydraulic rams. A depth counter measures the coiled tubing deployed from the reel and generates length measurement signals, and sensors coupled to the at least two hydraulic rams measure real-time lateral movement of the coiled tubing with respect to the monitoring support guide as the coiled tubing is deployed into the water and thereby generate sensor signals. A data acquisition system receives and processes the length measurement and sensor signals to provide an output signal indicative of real-time bending fatigue of the coiled tubing at select locations along the coiled tubing.
SYSTEM FOR CONTROLLING THE MOVEMENT OF A LOAD
The invention is a system for controlling the relative movement of a load P, comprising at least one main damper having a longitudinal action of stroke C and two ends with one end being connected to a frame and the other being connected to the load. A compensation device is included having at least one secondary damper of longitudinal action with two ends with one end being secured to the frame and the other end is connected to the end of the main damper connected to the load The secondary damper is arranged so that, at one point of stroke C, the secondary damper has an action orthogonal in direction to the direction of the movement.
Offshore production systems with top tensioned tendons for supporting electrical power transmission
An offshore production system includes a surface vessel, a tubular tendon extending between the surface vessel and a lower connection system disposed at a seabed, the riser coupled to the surface vessel with an upper connection system, and an electrical cable extending through a central passage of the tubular tendon, wherein the upper connection system comprises a connector that physically supports the electrical cable.
Running a subsea riser string
A vessel is adapted to perform subsea wellbore related operations, involving a riser string that extends between a subsea wellbore and a vessel and that is assembled from releasably interconnected riser sections that each comprise a main riser pipe and at least one auxiliary pipe. The vessel includes an auxiliary pipe filling device adapted to fill the at least one auxiliary pipe of a riser section during a lowering step of said riser running operation, the auxiliary pipe filling device including a liquid source, e.g. for water, at least one nozzle adapted to dispense water into said auxiliary pipe, a liquid flow line, connecting the liquid source with the nozzle, and a nozzle mount that is adapted to mount the nozzle in a filling position in which the nozzle is positioned to dispense liquid into the at least one auxiliary pipe of the riser section during said lowering step.
Rotating control device, and installation and retrieval thereof
A rotating control device can include a latch assembly with a lock ring that permits displacement of an inner mandrel in one longitudinal direction, and prevents displacement of the inner mandrel in an opposite longitudinal direction. Another rotating control device can include a latch assembly and an equalization valve having an open configuration in which fluid communication is permitted between an exterior and an interior of the rotating control device through the equalization valve, the latch assembly changing from a latched to an unlatched configuration only when the equalization valve is in the open configuration. A method of installing a rotating control device can include releasing a running tool from the rotating control device by producing relative rotation between components of the running tool.
MPD-CAPABLE FLOW SPOOLS
This disclosure includes flow spool riser segment assemblies that are suitable for managed pressure drilling (MPD) and that can be lowered (e.g., when connected to other riser segment assemblies) through a rotary of a drilling rig. Some embodiments are configured to have portions of the flow spool connected (e.g., without welding) below the rotary.
