LOST CIRCULATION FLUIDS AND METHODS RELATED THERETO
Lost circulation particles are commonly used in drilling and/or cementing operations to prevent fluid loss to a subterranean formation. Lost circulation fluids and methods of drilling and/or cementing operations may also use petroleum coke lost circulation particles composed of fluid coke and/or flexicoke material. Such petroleum coke lost circulation particles may have improved transport into wellbores because of their lower density compared to traditional lost circulation material and may produce fewer fines that can interfere with lost circulation efficacy.
Methods and systems of modeling fluid diversion treatment operations
Methods and system for modeling wellbore treatment operations in which the flow of treatment fluids may be diverted are provided. In one embodiment, the methods comprise: receiving, at a processing component, one or more treatment operation inputs characterizing a treatment operation for a wellbore system comprising a wellbore penetrating at least a portion of a subterranean formation and a treatment fluid comprising a diverter, wherein at least one of the one or more treatment operation inputs comprises the inlet concentration of the diverter in the treatment fluid; and using the processing component to determine a wellbore system pressure distribution and a wellbore system flow distribution based, at least in part, on the one or more treatment operation inputs and a diversion flow model, wherein the diversion flow model captures an effect of the diverter on fluid flow in the wellbore system.
Method and material for isolating a severe loss zone
A method and drilling fluid additive for reducing severe fluid losses in a well, comprising a combination of granular scrap tire particles and polymer adhesive molded into a cone shape. Once in the severe loss zone, a plurality of LCMs wedge into the formation fractures and seal off the severe loss zone.
CARBON-SWELLABLE SEALING ELEMENT
Methods of capturing carbon dioxide in a wellbore can include installing a sealing element in the wellbore. The sealing element swells in the presence of carbon dioxide and can be used for capturing the carbon. The sealing element can include a carbon-swelling material, such as a carbon-swelling polymers, metal-based materials, or combinations of elastomeric polymers and metal-based materials. The sealing element can also include combinations of different carbon-swelling materials, fillers or other compounds, and materials that are not carbon swellable. The sealing element can create a seal, form an anchor, or create a seal and form an anchor in the wellbore after swelling.
AUTOMATICALLY-CLEANABLE THICKENING PERFORMANCE EVALUATION INSTRUMENT FOR DRILLING LOST CIRCULATION MATERIALS
An automatically-cleanable thickening performance evaluation instrument for drilling LCMs includes a cleaning device, a kettle body, a thickening motor, a heating component, a test ending component, a top cover, and a bottom cover, where upper and lower ends of the kettle body are both opened; the kettle body is arranged in a third bearing inner race, a third bearing outer race is connected to a first limb, and the first limb is configured to limit a position of the kettle body; and the kettle body is detachably connected to the thickening motor and driven by the thickening motor to rotate. The instrument can realize electric heating and air pressurization to simulate the underground environment, and the kettle body can be completely sealed, such that a measured thickening time is close to an actual thickening time. Moreover, the instrument can be automatically cleaned at the end of a test.
Degradable polymeric nanoparticles and uses thereof
Provided herein are drilling muds, including water-based drilling muds. The components of the drilling muds are a degradable fluid loss additive, for example, synthetic degradable nanoparticles, a clay mineral, for example, a smectite, and a base fluid, for example, water. Also provide are methods for preventing leak-off during a drilling operation and for automatically cleaning-up filter cake after completion of a drilling process both of which utilize the drilling muds and water-based drilling muds.
Leak-proof lost-circulation control water-based drilling fluid composition and preparation method and use thereof
The present disclosure a leak-proof lost-circulation control water-based drilling fluid composition and preparation method and use thereof.
Wellbore servicing fluids and methods for controlling fluid losses in permeable zones
A method of servicing a wellbore penetrating a subterranean formation, the method including placing a wellbore servicing fluid into the wellbore proximate a permeable zone. The wellbore servicing fluid comprises a base fluid and from about 3 wt. % to about 25 wt. % by total weight of the wellbore servicing fluid of a particulate material. The particulate material comprises palm kernel shells.
