The mandrel (18) has a power charge chamber (68), an intermediate section (76) having an exterior (80) of uniform circumference, and a lower section (96) having a lower exterior (98) of uniform circumference. The lower exterior (98) is in fluid communication with the power charge chamber (68). The barrel piston (16) has a tubular body (116) with an enclosed lower end (134), and a central portion (128) with a uniform interior circumference (130) for slidably receiving the intermediate exterior (80) and the lower exterior (98) of the mandrel (18). An annular-shaped space (94) is defined to extend between the central portion (128) of the barrel piston (16) and the lower exterior (98) of the mandrel (18). The enclosed lower end (134) of the barrel piston (16) has a bore (136) for slidably receiving the lower exterior (98) of said mandrel (18). The mandrel (18) and the piston barrel (16) are adapted for securing to respective ones of a setting sleeve (150) and a packer mandrel (156).
DISSOLVABLE ISOLATION DEVICES WITH AN ALTERED SURFACE THAT DELAYS DISSOLUTION OF THE DEVICES
A wellbore isolation device comprising: a material that dissolves via corrosion when in contact with a wellbore fluid, a surface of the material, wherein the surface of the material is altered via a surface treatment, and wherein the altered surface delays corrosion of the material for a desired amount of time. A method of removing the wellbore isolation device comprising: contacting or allowing the wellbore isolation device to come in contact with a wellbore fluid; and causing or allowing at least the portion of the material to dissolve.
Downhole Tool Activation and Deactivation System
A system provides for the remote activation and deactivation of a downhole tool such as an agitator tool. The downhole tool uses a dart-catching section configured with a profile that engages with a corresponding key section of a dart. Different tools in the string may have different profiles, allowing darts to pass through tools to reach a tool with a matching profile further downhole. The dart includes a removable nozzle that can be detached by a object dropped from the surface, after which a second dart may be dropped to engage with the first dart to change operating parameters of the tool.
METHOD FOR PACKAGING COMPONENTS, ASSEMBLIES AND MODULES IN DOWNHOLE TOOLS
The apparatus may include a tool conveyed by a conveyance device. The tool has a body with a load bearing section, an outer surface defined by a diameter, a rotational axis, and a channel in the body extending from an opening at the outer surface. At least a part of the channel is inclined relative to the rotational axis of the body at the axial location of the opening in the body. The apparatus also includes at least one functional element disposed in the channel; and a conduit operatively connected to the at least one functional element transferring at least one of: (i) energy, (ii) a signal, (iii) a fluid, (iv) and formation material. Alternatively, the apparatus includes at least one self-contained functional element disposed in the channel.
Subterranean vibrator with lateral vibration feature
A vibratory tool for use in a tubular string to prevent sticking or to release a stuck string features a fluid operated dart valve working in conjunction with an impact sleeve to deliver continuous axial jarring blows in opposed directions as long as flow is maintained. Movement of one of those components axially in opposed directions opens and closes access to opposed lateral ports so that a lateral vibration is also established as flow cyclically occurs and stops sequentially at opposed lateral outlets.
Milling-drilling section billet and anchoring device
A milling-drilling section billet and anchoring device that is an improvement over current technology. The invention provides a device that incorporates an aluminum milling-drilling section billet and an anchoring device. The assembly is segregated into three main functional components: a setting tool connector system, an aluminum billet, and an anchoring section. The anchoring section has two slips, offset laterally and positioned 180 degrees apart on the device. When deployed, the slips lock the device in the formation and produce an offset of the billet within the formation. This angular positioning allows a milling head to be moved in a new direction from the existing well formation. Once the device is properly positioned in the wellbore, a frangible member breaks to allow removal of the setting tool prior to the renewed drilling operation.
Setting Tool for a Subterranean Adaptive Support Delivery Tool with Actuating Piston Speed Regulation Feature
An assembly of a setting tool in combination with a delivery tool for an adaptive support allows delivery of the adaptive support in a condition where it stores potential energy. Relative movement between a mandrel and a surrounding sleeve allows release of the adaptive support at a desired subterranean location. The relative movement to release the adaptive support comes from a setting tool that has a setting sleeve and a supporting connection to the mandrel of the delivery tool. The setting sleeve, when triggered to move by preferably an explosive charge, engages a piston rod assembly supported by the delivery tool mandrel for tandem movement to a mandrel travel stop. The tandem movement is regulated, preferably in the delivery tool, with regulation of fluid flow through a restriction to eliminate component failure due to high impact loads when the travel stop is engaged.
Pressure Isolation Ring To Isolate The Setting Chamber Once Hydraulic Packer Is Set
A hydraulic set packer system includes an outer sleeve and a mandrel extending through the outer sleeve. The mandrel has a setting port extending through a radial wall of the mandrel, and the setting port is configured to provide fluid communication from a central bore of the mandrel to a setting chamber formed between the outer sleeve and the mandrel. The system also includes a piston configured to move axially along the mandrel in response to a setting pressure in the setting chamber. The piston is configured to drive at least one radially actuatable component to actuate in a radial direction to engage a wellbore wall. Further, the system includes a pressure isolation assembly disposed in the setting chamber. The pressure isolation assembly is configured to move axially with respect to the mandrel from a first position to a second position to seal the setting port.
Releasing a downhole tool
Techniques for releasing a well tool string from a wireline release tool includes initiating actuation of a linear actuator of the wireline release tool, the actuator coupled to an inner mandrel on which a retractable latch rides, the retractable latch including a profile formed on an outer surface of the latch that is coupled to the well tool string; actuating the actuator to move the inner mandrel of the wireline release tool to remove support of the profile by a ramp formed on the outer surface, the profile retracted toward the inner mandrel based on the movement of the inner mandrel; decoupling the profile from the well tool string based on retraction of the profile toward the inner mandrel; and moving the wireline release tool into a position to release the wireline release tool from the well tool string.
