Wellbore plug isolation system and method
09835006 · 2017-12-05 · ·

A wellbore plug isolation system and method for positioning plugs to isolate fracture zones in a horizontal, vertical, or deviated wellbore is disclosed. The system/method includes a wellbore casing laterally drilled into a hydrocarbon formation, a wellbore setting tool (WST) that sets a large inner diameter (ID) restriction sleeve member (RSM), and a restriction plug element (RPE). The WST is positioned along with the RSM at a desired wellbore location. After the WST sets and seals the RSM, a conforming seating surface (CSS) is formed in the RSM. The CSS is shaped to engage/receive RPE deployed into the wellbore casing. The engaged/seated RPE isolates heel ward and toe ward fluid communication of the RSM to create a fracture zone. The RPE's are removed or left behind prior to initiating well production without the need for a milling procedure. A large ID RSM diminishes flow constriction during oil production.

DOWNHOLE LASER TOOL AND METHODS

A laser system for freeing downhole equipment includes a laser tool having an inner diameter larger than an outer diameter of the downhole equipment and a means for generating a ring-shaped collimated laser beam. The laser system further includes a work string with the inner diameter larger than the outer diameter of the downhole equipment. The laser tool is installed on the work string and the work string is lowered around the downhole equipment. Upon lowering the work string to a position in which the laser tool is located proximate to an obstruction of the downhole tool, the laser tool emits the ring-shaped collimated laser beam so as to clear out an annulus space between the downhole equipment and a wellbore wall in order to free the downhole equipment.

REMOVING OBSTRUCTIONS IN A WELLBORE

A wellbore assembly includes a cable configured to be disposed within a wellbore. The wellbore assembly also includes a housing attached to a downhole end of the cable. The housing defines a fluid outlet at a downhole end of the housing. The housing includes an anchor and a collapsible gate. The anchor engages a wall of the wellbore under increased tension in the cable, thereby anchoring the housing to the wellbore. The collapsible gate is disposed inside the housing between an uphole end of the housing and the fluid outlet. The housing temporarily stores a treatment fluid configured to treat an obstruction in the wellbore. The collapsible gate is configured to break, with the anchor engaged, under further tension applied by the cable, inside the housing to allow the treatment fluid to flow out of the housing through the fluid outlet toward the obstruction.

A method of removing material from a target is described. The method comprises the steps of providing a tool, the tool having at least one propellant source; pressurising the tool to a pressure higher than the environmental pressure; igniting at least one of the propellant source(s) to form a combustion zone; and directing combustion products generated at the combustion zone along at least one tool flow path. The tool flow path(s) is selectively openable or closable, such that upon exiting the tool flow path(s) the combustion products interact with a target, the interaction causing material to be removed from the target.

Fluid activated disintegrating metal system

An engineered composite system designed to be passive or inert under one set of conditions, but becomes active when exposed to a second set of conditions. This system can include a dissolving or disintegrating core, and a surface coating that has higher strength or which only dissolves under certain temperature and pH conditions, or in selected fluids. These reactive materials are useful for oil and gas completions and well stimulation processes, enhanced oil and gas recovery operations, as well as in defensive and mining applications requiring high energy density and good mechanical properties, but which can be stored and used for long periods of time without degradation.

STUCK PACKER MILLER AND EXTERNAL RETRIEVAL TOOL

A downhole retrieval tool includes: an upper sub-assembly disposed at a proximal end of the retrieval tool; an engagement body disposed axially adjacent to the upper sub-assembly, with respect to a central longitudinal axis of the retrieval tool; and a milling tool disposed at a distal end of the retrieval tool. The engagement body is configured to selectively constrict about a portion of production tubing extending from a packer assembly, the packer assembly comprising a packer element. The milling tool is configured to mill one or more portions at an outer periphery of the packer element. A related method includes deploying and utilizing such a retrieval tool downhole.

METHOD TO ISOLATE PRESSURE ON A MULTILATERAL ORIENTATION ASSEMBLY WITH A REDUCTION IN TRIPS

Provided, in one aspect, is an anchoring subassembly, a well system, and a method for forming a well system. The anchoring subassembly, in at least one aspect, includes an orienting receptacle section, a sealing section coupled proximate a downhole end of the orienting receptacle section, and a latching element section coupled proximate a downhole end of the sealing section.
