A METHOD FOR THE EXTRACTION OF HYDROCARBON

A method to facilitate the extraction of hydrocarbon from a coal seam gas formation is described that includes. : (a) drilling a wellbore using a drill string to access the coal seam gas formation; (b) perforating a section of the drill string; (c) abandoning a section of the drill string in the wellbore; (d) setting a temporary plug to isolate the abandoned section of the drill string and the wellbore; (e) installing a production tubing string above the temporary plug to create a fluid passageway ; (f) displacing a fluid above the temporary plug ; (g) removing the temporary plug to create an initial stimulated reservoir volume and, resultantly, at least partially filling an annulus formed between the abandoned section of the drill string and the wellbore wall with coal fragments; and (h) extracting hydrocarbon from the coal seam gas formation via the fluid passageway to create an expanding stimulated reservoir volume.

Device and method to image flow in oil and gas wells using phased array doppler ultrasound

A device and method for imaging, measuring and identifying multiphase fluid flow in wellbores using phased array Doppler ultrasound. The device includes a radially-configured or ring-shaped ultrasound transducer that when deployed in a well in Doppler mode can measure the velocity of radially flowing fluids in the wellbore and generate a 3D image of radial flow in the wellbore, including flowback into the wellbore after fracturing operations, or flow leaving the wellbore during water injection operations. The ring-shaped ultrasound transducer can also simultaneously operate in a B-mode to generate a B-mode image of the wellbore liner upon which the Doppler image can be overlaid. The device may also include a forward facing ultrasound transducer either instead of or in place of the ring-shaped transducer for obtaining information and images on axial flow in the wellbore in Doppler mode, and the location of phase boundaries and phase locations in B-mode.

Integrated wiring gun and method

An improved perforating gun with novel endplates is disclosed along with a corresponding method of assembly. The endplate includes a base with a first end separated from a second end separated by a curved sidewall centered around a longitudinal axis and a set of tube tabs flexibly coupled to the base and extending from the second end. Each of the set of tube tabs has a retaining lip and is generally oriented in a direction of the longitudinal axis. The endplate may include an optional carrier tab with an integrated alignment pin. Selected embodiments may also include a zero-tension connector with a sliding contact mounted within a cavity of a housing, a through-wire connected to the sliding contact. The novel endplate reduces the cost and complexity of manufacture and installation.

Method of monitoring a reservoir

A method of monitoring a reservoir comprising setting at least one barrier in a well separating it into upper and lower isolated sections. A perforating gun or other perforating device is provided in the lower isolated section, along with a control mechanism, wireless communication device and a pressure sensor. After the barrier is set, the perforating gun is activated in order to create at least one perforation between the well and a surrounding reservoir. The well, or part of it, is suspended or abandoned but the pressure is still monitored and a wireless, preferably acoustic or electromagnetic, data signal is transmitted from the lower isolated section to above the barrier. Data from the suspended/abandoned part of the well may be used to infer characteristics of the reservoir so that it may be exploited more appropriately especially through another well.
