Method and apparatus for testing setting tools and other assemblies used to set downhole plugs and other objects in wellbores
A wireline conveyed, gas driven setting tool configured to set downhole tools including, without limitation, frac plugs, bridge plugs, cement retainers and packers. The setting tool is functioned by selectively igniting a power charge inside of a firing head. As the power charge burns, it generates gas that acts upon a piston area to stroke the setting tool. A dampening media, as well an optimized flow area at or near the distal end of the setting tool, act to slow the setting stroke. A mobile testing assembly can confirm that a setting tool or other associated equipment was manufactured and assembled properly, and is fit for service, prior to running the setting tool a well bore. The mobile testing assembly and testing method can be employed in a shop or other manufacturing facility, or on a well site or other remote location.

CONTROL SYSTEM AND METHOD OF FLOWBACK OPERATIONS FOR SHALE RESERVOIRS
A flowback system and method employ a flowback model that characterizes fluid properties and rock mechanical properties of the reservoir during flowback in conjunction with measurement and analysis of chemistry and solids production with respect to the flowback fluid in order to maximize efficiency during the flowback operations, while mitigating formation damage and hydraulic fracture conductivity degradation. The methodology can define a safe drawdown operating zone for conducting flowback operations.

DYNAMIC SENSING OF THE TOP OF CEMENT (TOC) DURING CEMENTING OF A WELL CASING IN A WELL BORE
A well casing is cemented in a well bore in a subterranean formation by pumping cement slurry down into the well casing so that the cement slurry flows up into an annulus surrounding the well casing. While pumping the cement slurry, the position of the top of the cement slurry in the annulus is sensed, and the rise of the sensed position of the top of the cement slurry in the annulus is recorded as a function of time. The recording is analyzed to evaluate the cement job. For example, the analysis may indicate a problem addressed by adjusting a cement plan for a future cement job, and the analysis may indicate a need to repair a location of the set cement by perforating the well casing at the location to be repaired, and pumping cement slurry down the well casing to fill the location to be repaired.
CASING COUPLING HAVING COMMUNCATION UNIT FOR EVALUATING DOWNHOLE CONDITIONS
A communication unit is situated in or on a casing collar. The casing collar has two threaded ends for joining casing joints to construct a well casing, and a communication unit is disposed in or on a central region of the tube between the two threaded ends. In an example, the communication unit has a transmitter for transmitting sensor data uphole from a sensor sensing a well bore condition. For example, the communication unit has a receiver for receiving sensor data from Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS) sensors, a transceiver for interrogating RFID tags, an acoustic transceiver for sensing wellbore conditions, a pressure sensor, a temperature sensor, and batteries for powering the communication unit.
