20230184105 · 2023-06-15 ·

Some systems and methods of hydraulic fracturing a formation of a borehole include receiving a length-to-radius ratio of a borehole segment of the borehole and determining when the length-to-radius ratio is less than a threshold. Responsive to determining that the length-to-radius ratio is less than the threshold, some systems and methods include predicting a breakdown pressure associated with a formation surrounding the borehole segment based on a length of the borehole segment. Responsive to determining that the length-to-radius ratio is greater than or equal to the threshold, some systems and methods include determining, a characteristic diffusion time associated with a fluid diffusing into the formation surrounding the borehole segment. Some systems and methods include pumping the fluid into the borehole segment to fracture the formation surrounding the borehole segment at the determined breakdown pressure.

ROLLER CONE RESISTIVITY SENSOR

In accordance with embodiments of the present disclosure, a drilling system includes a roller cone drill bit having a roller cone and at least one antenna loop disposed in the roller cone for detecting magnetic or electromagnetic waves indicative of a target, a resistivity, or a boundary of the subterranean formation, man-made structure, or object. The drilling system may utilize the antenna loop to determine resistivity measurements of a subterranean formation through which the drill bit is being drilled. The location of the antenna in the roller cone may enable increased look-ahead and look-around measurements. In addition, the location of the antenna in the roller cone may facilitate anisotropic resistivity measurements to aid in steering the drill string into a desired portion of the subterranean formation.

SYSTEM AND METHODOLOGY FOR ACOUSTIC MEASUREMENT DRIVEN GEO-STEERING

A technique facilitates use of acoustic measurements to enable geo-steering during a well operation. A steerable well string is provided with acoustic systems used to collect data which is then processed to determine geo-steering inputs. In some applications, the well string may comprise a coiled tubing drilling tool. The coiled tubing drilling tool or other well string tool is combined with an azimuthally distributed pitch-catch micro-sonic sensor system and an azimuthally distributed ultrasonic pulse-echo transducer system. Data from these two systems is provided to a processing system which processes the data to determine, for example, real-time, geo-steering inputs. These inputs may then be used to more effectively steer the coiled tubing drilling tool or other well string tool.
