Bit holder with differential interference
A bit holder includes a larger bit shank bore and an enlarged upper shank segment or band that provides an interference fit between the top of the shank and the top of a bore of a base block when the bottom of a body of the bit holder seats on the top of the base block. The bit holder further includes a lower shank segment being cylindrical, inwardly tapered, and/or outwardly tapered, the lower shank segment having a differential taper than a corresponding lower bore portion of the base block.

The cutter bit may also include a plurality of circumferentially-spaced ribs projecting radially outwardly from an outer peripheral surface of at least one of the leading end, conical-shaped tip portion, the rearward, frustoconical-shaped tip portion, or the frustoconical-shaped body portion.
Tool bit assembly
A tool bit assembly includes a shank having an elongated shaft, an intermediate portion extending from the shaft, a head extending from the intermediate portion, and a tool portion extending from the head. The assembly includes a retainer with a body defining a hollow shaft configured to receive at least a portion of the elongated shaft of the shank therethrough, and a washer defining an opening extending from a first end to a second end of the washer, and the washer having at least a first step and a second step. The opening of the washer is configured to receive at least a portion of the intermediate portion of the shank therethrough. The first step is configured to abut a bottom surface of the head of the shank, and the second step is configured to abut a first shoulder of the intermediate portion of the shank.

A cutting tool for a tunnel boring machine, including a tool head equipped with a wear sensor detachably connectable to a tool holder. A line arrangement having a wireless, connector-free coupling module between the tool head and the tool holder is provided for connecting the wear sensors to an evaluation module. In the event of wear, a tool head to be replaced may be removed from the tool holder and a new tool head may be connected to the tool holder.

A system includes a carrier assembly, a replacement tool movably supported by the carrier assembly, and a sensor configured to capture sensor data associated with a wear part removably connected to a rotatable drum. The system also includes a controller configured to receive the sensor data from the sensor, and identify the wear part using the sensor data. In such a system, the carrier assembly is configured to move the replacement tool such that an axis of the replacement tool is substantially collinear with an axis of the wear part. Additionally, the replacement tool is configured to remove the wear part from the drum while the axis of the replacement tool is substantially collinear with the axis of the wear part.
