Aragonite Based Ground Covering
20210230815 · 2021-07-29 ·

Compositions and methods are presented in which aragonite, and especially oolitic aragonite particles are used as infill material in an artificial turf structure or as sub-growth substrate for natural grass. Advantageously, oolitic aragonite particles provide: a superior microporous surface for effective water saturation to impart thermal control and environmental compatibility; ammonia neutralization of urine by reducing urea hydrolysis with the free calcium presented in the aragonite particles; and aragonite particle uniformity allowing for reduced compaction and desirable water draining.

ARTIFICIAL TURF SYSTEM INCLUDING TWO ELASTIC LAYERS AND A GEOGRID

An artificial turf system (100, 500) comprises an artificial turf layer (102), an upper elastic layer (104) positioned below the artificial turf layer, and a geogrid (106). The geogrid is positioned between the first elastic layer and a lower elastic layer. The lower elastic layer (108) is positioned below the geogrid.

SUPPORT LAYER FOR SUPPORTING AN ARTIFICIAL TURF ASSEMBLY, AND ARTIFICIAL TURF SYSTEM

A support layer for supporting an artificial turf assembly. The support layer being formed of a polymeric foam, preferably having a density of between 20 and 70 grams per liter, such as a polyolefin foam; and having an upper side and a lower side, wherein in use the support layer has been placed with the lower side thereof on a base surface and supports, on the upper side thereof, the artificial turf assembly, the support layer including a plurality of through drainage holes extending from the upper side to the lower side for allowing liquid such as rain water to flow via the plurality of drainage holes from the upper side to the lower side, and also including a plurality of channels at the lower side for allowing liquid such as rain water to flow through the channels along the lower side, wherein each of said plurality of drainage holes debouches into one of the plurality of channels. The support layer is further included in an artificial turf system, that includes an artificial turf assembly with the support layer supported on a base surface such as a layer of sand, wherein the support layer forms, at the upper sides thereof, a closed support surface supporting the artificial turf assembly.

METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING AN ARTIFICIAL TURF SYSTEM AND SUCH A SYSTEM

A method for manufacturing an artificial turf system provides for collecting infill from an existing artificial turf, wherein the collected infill comprises collected rubber granulates, mixing the collected rubber granulates and a binding agent for generating an elastic binding composition, applying the elastic binding composition over a base layer or over an optional existing artificial turf on top of the base layer, and applying a new artificial turf over the elastic binding composition, and the artificial turf system generated therein.

There is described a panel assembly to be laid over a base surface and under a carpet-like top layer to install a multi-layered sports-playing field. The padding assembly comprises a panel comprising a top face and a bottom face, with the top face of the panel facing the carpet-like top layer and the panel further comprising drainage holes fluidly connecting the top face to the bottom face. The padding assembly also comprises a drain mat affixed to the bottom face of the panel with the drain mat operating as a fluid-permeable layer distancing the bottom face from the base surface. A method of installing a multi-layered sports-playing field is also described.

Base for turf system

An underlayment layer is configured to support an artificial turf assembly. The underlayment layer comprises a core with a top side and a bottom side. The top side has a plurality of spaced apart, upwardly oriented projections that define channels suitable for fluid flow along the top side of the core when the underlayment layer is positioned beneath an overlying artificial turf assembly.

Infill for artificial turf system

An artificial turf system includes a turf assembly having a turf backing and stands of artificial grass blades extending from the turf backing to form an artificial turf layer. Infill material is placed in between the blades of artificial grass and on top of the turf backing. The infill material has a composition of sand and organic particles. The infill material organic particles includes a plurality of wood particles where at least a portion of the wood particles define a length dimension oriented generally parallel to a grain structure of the wood particles. The length dimension is greater than a width or a thickness dimension and, in one example, may be in a range of about 0.5 mm to about 10 mm. The length dimension and one of the width or thickness dimensions may, in another example, define an aspect ratio within a range of 1:2 to 10:1.
