The method may include measuring temperature of the screed plate over a time interval using a temperature sensor, and adjusting a target temperature of the heating element, depending on a time profile of the temperature of the screed plate, using a control unit of the road paver.

An enclosure is provided wherein the drum is inserted within the enclosure to form an upper section of the enclosure between the drum and a top surface of the enclosure and a lower section of the enclosure between the drum and a bottom surface of the enclosure. A plurality of heat openings is formed on the bottom surface of the enclosure. A plurality of heating elements is provided, wherein an individual heating element is coupled to a corresponding heat opening, the plurality of heating elements generating heat which travels along the lower section of the enclosure and through the upper section of the enclosure heating the material in the drum.

An improved sealant packaging and method for use with sealing joints and cracks in pavement and parking lots is provided. Liquid sealant material is poured by volume into a container draped with a sheet. Container is cooled so that the sealant becomes a solid block, with the sheet adhered to the sides of the sealant block such that the sheet forms a container for the sealant. The sheet also acts a release liner for easily removing the sealant block from the container. Two or more contained blocks are stacked together, forming a package of two or more blocks self-sealed by sheets. When the package is placed in a melting kettle, heat migrates through the spaces between the individual sealant blocks and allows the smaller sealant blocks to melt quickly and evenly. Sheet and film melt with sealant material and are incorporated therein to form the final sealant product.

A melting kettle for processing of thermoplastic material. The kettle disclosed herein obtains heat transfer by use of an oil jacketed tank with an adjoining main tank for storage of hot oil and a hose tank for recovery of the hot oil. Oil expelled from the oil jacket is directed to the main tank through an opening. Spillage of oil from the hose tank is directed to the main tank through an aperture. The melting kettle reduces the space needed for oil storage, and increases operator safety by eliminating additional transfer lines. Dual kettles benefit by having the adjoining main tank placed therebetween.
