System and method for controlling reporting frequency

A method includes receiving first location information at a first reporting frequency, the first location information being generated by a location sensor and indicating a first location of a paving system component. The method also includes determining that a distance between a second location of the paving system component and a first geofence is less than or equal to a distance threshold. The method further includes controlling the location sensor to provide second location information at the first reporting frequency, and receiving third location information at the first reporting frequency. In such a method, the third location information indicates a third location of the paving system component. The method also includes determining that the third location is within the first geofence, and controlling the location sensor to provide fourth location information at a second reporting frequency greater than the first reporting frequency.

System for heating a paving screed

A system for controlling heating of a screed plate includes screed plate disposed along the paving material delivery path. A first temperature sensor is operative to monitor a screed plate temperature and a second temperature sensor along the paving material delivery path is operative to monitor an actual paving material temperature of a paving material being applied to a work surface. A controller is configured to determine an estimated paving material temperature adjacent the screed plate based upon the actual paving material temperature and operate a heater to maintain the screed plate temperature within a temperature variation range relative to the estimated paving material temperature.

Method of Producing an Asphalt Pavement and Supply Arrangement for Supplying Asphalt Pavement

In a method of and an apparatus for improving the quality of an asphalt pavement, the asphalt is charged in a supply arrangement (2) adapted to be fitted in an inlet space (11) of a road finishing machine (1). The supply arrangement comprises a rotary vessel (3) in the shape of a truncated cone with a top inlet (30) and a smaller bottom outlet (31). The rotary vessel (3) has internal irregularities (32) for homogenizing the asphalt as to particle size and temperature. Preferably a distributing device (9) including at least one dividing member (93) and a rearrangement device (95) is also used, having the at least one dividing member (93) extending transversely over the belt conveyor (12) under the bottom outlet (31) to divide the flow of asphalt into layers, on top of one another, and the rearrangement device (95) to optimize form and feeding.

Disclosed is a portable storage system for asphalt and other like material that is required to be maintained at a particular constant heated temperature even in sub-zero ambient temperatures. The system may include an exterior covering over a frame to define an enclosure. The frame defines an interior space where an insulated tank resides. The tank is heated. The interior of the enclosure may be heated. Rails provided along a vertical surface of the enclosure and extending above the roof of the enclosure allow the entire system to be loaded as a roll-off load on a truck. A plurality of lugs with apertures therethrough extend beyond the exterior surface of the enclosure to enable the enclosure to be lifted by cranes and tied down during transport.

Method and apparatus for spreading chips on roadway

A modified chip spreader is adapted to be used in a chip sealing train including a chip supply dump truck and an asphalt composition supply truck. The modified chip spreader is a self-propelled vehicle that has a receiving hopper on its front end for receiving stone chips from the chip supply dump truck, a spreader assembly on its rear end and a conveyor assembly for conveying the stone chips from the receiving hopper to the spreader assembly. The modified chip spreader also includes a spray assembly that is in fluid communication with an outlet line from the asphalt composition supply truck, which spray assembly is adapted to dispense an asphalt composition onto the surface of a roadway in front of the spreader assembly. The spreader assembly dispenses the stone chips onto the newly applied asphalt composition on the surface of the roadway.
