A method of resurfacing a length of roadway or other paved surface having markers thereon includes covering the markers with respective marker covers, applying a coating material to the road and the marker covers, then removing the covers. The marker covers mask the markers from the coating material. An inside dimension of the marker covers should approximate the widest outside dimension of the markers. The inside height of the marker cover can be higher than the height the marker extends over the surface. The cover should rest on the surface and not on the marker, for preferred masking and stability. The weight and shape of the covers should permit them to stay in place despite various disrupting forces. After coating, the covers can be removed or crushed in place.

An apparatus includes a pavement marker configured to be mounted to a road at a lane line of a lane at known orientation with respect to the lane line; and an RF device carried by the raised pavement marker. The RF device is configured to transmit a directional RF navigation signal and it is positioned relative to the known orientation to transmit the signal across the lane in a direction that is substantially normal to the lane line.

The reflector includes an outer face for receiving light and an inner face comprising a plurality of light reflecting elements for receiving and reflecting the light back through the outer face. The reflector comprises a light transmitting and thermochromatic polymer adapted to transition at a predetermined transition temperature so as to change the color of the light reflected by the reflector depending on the temperature of the polymer. The predetermined transition temperature can be selected so that the color change of the light reflected by the reflector indicates freezing or near freezing road conditions.

This invention relates to a selective tire-impairment device attachable to a roadway surface. The device can include a lateral surface having a piercing element. The piercing element can be oriented downward to selectively impair a sidewall of a tire traveling laterally without affecting a tire traveling in a typical forward direction. The piercing element can severely damage a tire of a vehicle performing a stunt, commonly referred to as a doughnut, due to the lateral direction of travel of a tire during the stunt.
