Compressible shock absorber and associated method
Compressible shock absorber (100), characterized in that it includes at least one pair of shock absorbing elements (110) co-axial and telescopic reciprocally sliding along a longitudinal sliding axis (X); said shock absorbing elements (110) co-axially include a cavity (115) and include therein a compressible air volume during their axial sliding reciprocal between a first position of maximum axial extension and a second position of lower axial extension; said at least one pair of shock absorbing elements (110) includes air extractors (140) susceptible of allowing an extraction of the air from said internal volume progressive with the reduction of the axial extension following the impact of a vehicle against said shock absorber.
APPARATUS FOR ABSORBING ENERGY RESULTING FROM VEHICLE IMPACT
Apparatus positioned at a guardrail lead end portion for absorbing energy resulting from vehicle impact includes an impact terminal, a support structure supporting the impact terminal at or adjacent to a lead end portion of the guardrail and a chute. The guardrail is in frictional engagement with inner chute surfaces and the chute applies torquing forces on the guardrail during passage of the guardrail through the chute to cause twisting of the guardrail and absorb vehicle collision impact energy.
Safety Device for Guard Rail
A safety device functions as a cap that is inserted over the exposed end of an I-shaped support post. The safety device comprises a generally L-shaped cap including a front pad that covers the flange of the support post, and a top pad that covers the exposed end of the support post when the safety device is installed onto the support post.
Energy absorbing guardrail system having a modified first upper post
A highway crash attenuation system having W-beam rail elements attached to a plurality of vertical posts. An impact terminal with a feeder chute guides one or more of the W-beam rail elements through the impact terminal. The feeder chute has an impact shield extending along a traffic-facing side of the chute from an upstream-most end to a downstream-most end of the chute closing the traffic-facing side of the chute. The system also has an anchor cable release mechanism for releasing the cable downstream of the first vertical post and an improved first breakaway post. An improved upper section of Post 1 has an anchor bearing plate with a cooperating stabilizing bolt engaging with the upstream face of the upper post section. The downstream side of the upper post section is provided with split, spaced-apart strut sections which do not obstruct the rear cable pass through notch.
Guardrail Terminal Barrier
A force-absorbing barrier 10 includes a plurality of concentric chambers 21, 23, 25 and 27 at least partially filled with fluid 42. The walls 22, 24, 26 and 28 defining the chambers are flexible. Fluid passages 30 in the interior walls 24, 26 and 28 between chambers allow fluid flow between the chambers. The fluid flow from chamber to chamber will absorb energy from the impact a motor vehicle, preventing the vehicle from impacting the terminal of a guardrail.
GUARDRAIL CRASH ABSORBING ASSEMBLY
A guardrail vehicle crash absorbing assembly including a braking structure at a panel joint including a tooth having a cutting portion for making a horizontal cut in a rail panel slidably moving relative to another rail panel.
Multi-application nose sheeting
A system for displaying a desired reflective sheeting striping pattern on a traffic management device includes providing a portable panel having reflecting sheeting affixed to a face thereof, orienting the portable panel as desired, and affixing the panel to the device using fastener holes disposed about a perimeter of the panel. The displayed striping pattern may be easily changed by removing the panel from the device, turning the panel over to display an opposing side, on which is displayed a different striping pattern, and reattaching the panel to the traffic management device so that the opposing side of the panel is displayed, or by removing the panel from the traffic management device, rotating the panel by 90 degrees, 180 degrees, or 270 degrees, and then reattaching the panel to the traffic management device so that the same particular striping pattern is oriented in a different direction.
Frangible post for highway barrier end terminals
A frangible post captures and holds a cable anchor to a guardrail. The post breaks when struck by a vehicle, releasing the cable. The frangible post may include hinge members, which bias the post so that weakened sections are put in tension when the post is struck, thereby ensuring that the post breaks cleanly and the cable is released when the post is struck. A method of releasing a cable anchor includes impacting the post, biasing the weakened sections so that they are in tension, breaking the post, and releasing the cable anchor. The post may be configured with a notch to engage the cable anchor, which is then released from the notch as the post is broken.
GUARDRAIL CRASH ABSORBING ASSEMBLY
A guardrail crash absorbing assembly including overlapping elongated upstream and downstream rail panels. An impact head for sliding said upstream rail panel relative to said downstream panel when impacted by a vehicle, and a cutting tooth for cutting and splitting the downstream rail panel upon vehicle impact on the impact head.
Twist box guardrail terminal
This guardrail terminal design incorporates an impact head of open front configuration adapted with the rear portion as a funnel disposed with the narrow end of the funnel facing forward which will flatten the W beam guardrail as it moves down the beam when impacted by a vehicle. Tension is maintained on the beam by flat strips connected from the beam through top open front of the impact head and is attached to a front anchor post. A wedge shaped reverse direction bracket with slotted bolt holes such that the slots open toward the traffic direction disposed at the back of the impact head where it connects to the guardrail will allow for reverse direction impacts to be accounted for.
