A device for collecting debris from a ground surface, comprising a flexible generally planar member with an opening therethrough such that when the device is laid on and moved forwardly over the ground surface debris on the ground surface passes upwardly through the opening onto a collection surface of the device, the device having an inclined surface extending upwardly and rearwardly from a transverse edge which forms a rear edge of the opening, wherein the device further includes at least one longitudinal retaining barrier extending at least partly across the collection surface such that at least part of the debris on the collection surface is retained from transverse movement along the collection surface by the longitudinal retaining barrier.

This invention relates to multi-purpose self propelled surface cleaning machine for road construction and especially to a drivable surface sweeper and scrapper for the removal of overburden and waste materials during road construction. The prime mover has multiple flexible components and does not need to add make-shift components at a later time.

A vehicular sweeping machine that is adapted to rotate a broom about a substantially horizontal axis to sweep material into a broom conveyor of fixed width is provided with a modular broom assembly that can accommodate a broom of a first length and a broom of a second length that is longer than the first length. The modular broom assembly includes a primary broom enclosure that is adapted to accommodate the broom of the first length, and an extension assembly that includes broom extension components which are adapted to be installed on the primary broom enclosure to increase the width of the primary broom enclosure to accommodate the broom of the second length, and to direct material swept by the broom of the second length into the broom conveyor.

A method for collecting garbage from a surface includes providing a motor-sweeper including a sweep broom. A rear guide is provided between the sweep broom and the collecting container extending downwards from the collecting container close to the sweep broom. The sweep broom rests with the guide assembly onto the surface, and the sweep broom is rotated in order to collect and convey the garbage into the collecting container. The rotation of the sweep broom causes the garbage to be swept forwardly and upwardly with respect to the forward motion of the motor-sweeper. In response to the bristles of the sweep broom wearing, the sweep broom is moved toward the surface and the guide assembly and the rear guide are moved towards the sweep broom so as to maintain uniform spaces between the sweep broom and the guide assembly, and the sweep broom and the rear guide.
