20210405666 · 2021-12-30 · ·

A system and method for floodwater redistribution is disclosed. The system being comprised of onshore and offshore pump stations and pipelines deployed along the Gulf Coast to redistribute floodwaters to reservoirs located in the western United States. The pump stations include a network of controllers which monitor input/output head pressures and pump speeds and submit the data to the system server to determine the pump settings needed to optimize water flow along the line.

Tidal creator for a terminal lake and method of using the same for restoration efforts at the Salton Sea.

This invention is a device for creating tidal action in a terminal lake. A first aspect involves staggering of input and output from the terminal lake, such that the level of the lake rises and falls on a daily basis to simulate tidal action. A second aspect involves the creation of a berm and islands, with a system of pumps and drains filling and emptying a series of holding ponds, creating an even greater “reach” of the tidal action. This tidal action allows for the growth of mangrove forests, which prevent land-based predators such as coyotes from accessing bird nests on the islands, as well as keeping the “playa” wet enough so that local wind does not pick up playa sediment and create toxic dust storms. The toxic upper 3″ of the “playa” is bulldozed to create the berm, islands, and access roads which bisect the newly-created intertidal zone.

Tidal Flood Mitigation Assembly

A tidal flood mitigation assembly includes a riser that is attachable to a well head located in a coastal area. The riser extends at least 5.0 feet above ground to elevate the entry into the well head high enough to inhibit king tide flood waters from pouring outwardly from the well head. In this way the riser can mitigate king tide flood waters. A discharge pipe is fluidly coupled to the riser and the discharge pipe is in fluid communication with a sump pump. In this way the discharge pipe directs water from the sump pump into the well head. A breather tube is fluid coupled to the riser for purging air from the riser when the water level rises in the riser.

A movable platform adjacent to a stationary platform and operable between a raised position forming a part of a deck surface and a lowered position at least partially submerged in the body of water. A landing section and walkway section included in the movable platform. A lever arm carried by the landing section and extending underneath the walkway section, wherein the lever arm engages a bottom side of the walkway section when the movable platform is in the raised position, and the lever arm disengages from the walkway section when the movable platform is in the lowered position. A floatation unit disposed on the bottom side of the landing section. An air pump unit carried by the stationary platform, wherein the air pump unit channels air into and out of the floatation unit to change the buoyancy of the floatation unit to raise and lower the movable platform.

Dual-Purpose Flood and Drought Relief System
20230132913 · 2023-05-04 ·

The present invention relates to a dual-purpose flood and drought relief system for redirecting water from flooded areas to areas in need of water due to lack of supply and/or drought. The system is comprised of at least one pump that can be placed in a body of water. When flooding occurs, at least one water sensor is activated, such that the pump begins pumping flood water through the system. The system may be comprised of at least one filter that is preferably a multi-layered carbon filter. Using a hydroelectric and magnetic compass, the system redirects the flood water through a tubing/piping to deliver water to drought-stricken locations. The tubing may be installed in a plurality of locations such as, but not limited to, highways, roadways, railways, bridges, etc., to easily transport water using the system.

SEDIMENT COLLECTOR WITH SELF INSTALLATION AND SELF REMOVAL FEATURE

A sediment collector assembly (100) (and associated method) includes a housing (102) dimensioned for receipt in an associated waterway. The housing has a wall (104, 106, 108, 112) forming an internal cavity (120). An opening (126) receives associated sediment from the associated waterway and temporarily stores the associated sediment in a hopper (128) received in the cavity and the associated sediment is subsequently removed therefrom. A chamber (160) in the housing includes at least one inlet port (162) extending through the wall that communicates with the chamber. A plurality of perforations (164) are spaced from the inlet port and extend through the wall. The inlet port is in selective, alternative, operative communication with an associated source of (i) pressurized fluid or (ii) pressurized air whereby when the pressurized fluid is introduced into the collector assembly chamber an overall weight of the collector increases and when ejected through the perforations, the fluid displaces associated soil from a bottom surface of the associated waterway.

SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR COASTAL DRAINAGE CONTROL

A drainage device includes a conduit extending from a bottom end toward a top end and a valve coupled to the conduit. The valve includes a first stop having an opening and an obstruction within the conduit. The obstruction, in a first configuration, may be spaced apart from the opening, enabling fluid to flow through the first stop and through the conduit. The obstruction, in a second configuration, may block the opening to prevent fluid flow through the first stop and through the conduit. The obstruction may move from the first configuration to the second configuration in response to (1) fluid pressure acting in a direction from the bottom end toward the top end of the conduit, or (2) when a fluid having a higher density than the obstruction is disposed within the valve.
