An improved, wholly mechanical, valve unit is provided to automatically allow for flow between a high temperature liquid line and a cooler temperature liquid line in order to maintain the immediate availability of hot liquid immediately upstream of the valve, especially for hot water used in a building. The valve unit of the present invention includes a thermally-activated, bi-metal, or more broadly bi-flexive, valve disc, and a smaller diameter valve seat that concentrically contacts the valve disc intermediate the outer circumference and the center of the disc. The bi-flexive disc is provided two-sided, circumferential support, thus substantially equalizing the pressure against both sides of the disc, even when in the closed valve position between the higher temperature, higher pressure, hot water line and the lower pressure cold water line. The valve opens when the temperature differential across the valve disc decreases below a preset amount.

On-demand hot water repurposing system and method

A system and method of minimizing the time between opening a hot water valve and hot water reaching a point of use by temporarily diverting the water to another point of use. The system and method embody a thermally sensitive valve arranged so as to permit the flow of cool water from a hot water supply line to be diverted to a point of use that is insensitive to the temperature of the water provided. Embodiments of the invention may also comprise timers that function to limit the amount of time that water may flow to a point of use that is insensitive to the temperature of the water provided. Such embodiments may operate without user intervention or may require that a user or other device provide a signal that causes the invention to divert water to a point of use that is insensitive to the temperature of water provided.

Water diversion assembly

The water diversion assembly of the present invention herein diverts and preserves the water supply when water supply is currently below the threshold temperature. The present invention relates to a water diversion assembly having a hot water inlet connected to a hot water supply and a cold water inlet connected to a cold water supply. An appliance outlet, for use by the user of an appliance, is configured to connect and deliver a water mix at an outlet temperature. The appliance outlet is in fluid communication with the hot water inlet, the cold water inlet, and a water collection outlet. Within the water diversion assembly, a thermostatic diversion valve having a hot water threshold temperature setting and arranged such that water from the hot water supply via the hot water inlet is delivered to the water collection outlet until the hot water threshold temperature is reached and then thermostatically diverted to a thermostatic mixing valve.

Cartridge Assembly for Diverting Flow

The present invention provides a cartridge assembly having a cartridge shell. The cartridge assembly permits flow from a flow source to be regulated by the cartridge assembly to flow along a first flow path or along a second flow path. Flow along the first flow path enters through a first end of the cartridge shell and exits through at least one opening in the cartridge shell. Flow along the second flow path enters through the first end of the cartridge shell and is diverted to exit through the first end of the cartridge shell.

COLD-STORAGE INSTANTANEOUS HEAT PUMP WATER HEATER
20210207848 · 2021-07-08 ·

The present invention provides a cold-storage instantaneous heat pump water heater (HPWH). The HPWH includes a cold-water tank, a main evaporator, a compressor, and a hot water heat exchanger. In the present invention, heat of a working medium in the cold-water tank is absorbed by the main evaporator, and bathing water is rapidly heated by the hot water heat exchanger (condenser of the heat pump), thereby realizing instant heating with small input electrical power. Cold-water tank replaces the hot water tank of conventional HPWH avoiding energy loss during hot water storage. The working medium in the cold-water tank absorbs heat from the environment, to further improve energy utilization. In addition, there are three energy recovery evaporators to recover the waste heat of bathing.

A circulating hot water system has a hot water flow circuit defined by pipework leading out from and back to an in-line heater, and including a pump to drive circulation of the hot water. Each of multiple user points has an outflow branch conduit and a return flow branch conduit with a common wall for heat exchange, as does the main flow circuit: the outflow conduit surrounds the return conduit. Water is fed into the system from a pressurized cold water supply main through a check valve. Sensors are used to monitor water temperatures and flow conditions around the system. A programmed control processor can control heating and pumping rates in various regimes, e.g. to maintain system temperature above a predetermined threshold. An isolation valve adapted for concentric double pipes is also described.

Water system with a continuous flow heater and a flushing station

The present invention relates to a water system with a warm water line (3) for supplying at least one first consumer (4, 4a, 4b) connected thereto with warm water and a continuous flow heater (1), in which cold water introduced into the latter is heatable, connected to said warm water line (3). In case warm water remains in the continuous flow heater, because it is only partially consumed, limescale deposit can reduce the performance and the service life of the continuous flow heater. Limescale deposit is particularly likely to happen in stagnant warm water. The present invention aims to solve aforesaid problem in that a flushing station (2) connected to said warm water line (3) is provided, by way of which stagnant water in said warm water line can be drained in a chronological sequence until the water contained in said continuous flow heater (1) is below a predetermined setpoint temperature.
