Disclosed are meeting spaces that are accessible through an adjoining facility or area, and associated systems and methods that provide automated levels of security for classified discussions. The meeting spaces are configured to automatically adapt to different levels of classification, e.g., from any of unclassified to top secret classifications. The meeting spaces are prevented from becoming active for their intended function until all required security features are activated. In some embodiments, the meeting spaces include one or more electronically opaquing privacy glass windows between the meeting space and the adjoining facility. The privacy glass can either appear as opaque, such as when a classified meeting or call is taking place or as a failsafe mode, or can be optically transmissive, such as when the space is unused, is used for unclassified purposes, and/or when the adjoining area is used at the same or higher level of classification.

Systems and methods for insulating attic openings
09803416 · 2017-10-31 ·

A cover for closing an access opening that leads to an infrequently used space within a building, such as an attic, that generally provides an air seal, thermal insulation and/or acoustic insulation at the access opening. The cover may be in one or two portions, including a closure alone or a closure and a frame having an aperture that can be closed by engagement between the closure and the frame. When the cover is used alone it engages a frame or a wall circumscribing the access opening. The cover is sized and shaped to close a stairwell, or the opening at one end of a stairway, an opening in a generally vertical wall, a hatch, or a pull down ladder. The closure and frame are each made of one or more components.

Device for thermal separation between a conditioned environment and at least one external environment
09823029 · 2017-11-21 ·

A device for thermal separation between a conditioned environment and at least one external environment, which comprises a wall that has at least a first active layer-like region toward the conditioned environment, a second active layer-like region toward the external environment with respect to the first active layer-like region, a first insulating layer-like region, which is interposed between the active layer-like regions, a second insulating layer-like region, which is interposed between the second active layer-like region and the external environment. The active layer-like regions accommodate channels for the outflow of heat transfer fluids, which have, during the operation of the thermal separation device, temperatures that on average are different through the thickness of the wall.
