A saferoom/tornado shelter is made primarily of wood and includes walls that can withstand missile impact testing as recommended under Federal guidance and regulations. The saferooms of the present invention can be designed for a single family or small business, or can be designed as a larger community shelter. The wood wall can accommodate various architectural finish treatments and enhancements much more easily than a concrete or steel building saferoom. The walls can be made from dimensional lumber, stacked along its width and the saferooms can be assembled without the need for glue, wood screws or the like.

Modular building unit, system and method

A modular building unit for use in constructing a building. The building unit has a planar body having two major side faces and two ends between each side face, and a connection interface provided at each of the ends, for connecting similar building units with complemental connection interfaces. The body includes three walls arranged side-to-side and transversely spaced from each other, the three walls thus defining two planar spaces therebetween, and a plurality of reinforcing webs in the first space, for providing structural support to the building unit. The second space defines at least one hollow cavity for receiving a matched insulation insert thereby to impart insulating properties to the building unit.

Rapid assembly construction modules and methods for use

A module for use in constructing a building includes a ceiling assembly. Wall assemblies are configured for attachment to opposite sides of the ceiling assembly generally at tops of the wall assemblies. A floor assembly is configured for attachment generally to bottoms of the wall assemblies. Connector plates are attached to the wall assemblies. The connector plates are configured to receive fasteners for attaching the ceiling assembly and floor assembly to the wall assemblies. A method of construction using the modules is also disclosed.

PREFABRICATED BUILDING SYSTEM AND METHODS

A method of constructing a building is disclosed, including selecting a standard dimension less than a wide-load trucking permit limit and designing a building on a grid defined by the selected standard dimension. The building includes a plurality of prefabricated elements, wherein each prefabricated element has a width correspond to the selected standard dimension. The plurality of prefabricated elements includes a wall panel, a roof panel, a laterally resistive frame, and a rebar cage. The method includes fabricating each of the plurality of prefabricated elements at a manufacturing plant and transporting the elements by truck to a building site. The method includes constructing intersecting grade beam footings at the building site and pouring a slab between the intersecting grade beam footings. The grade beam footings include the rebar cage and have a uniform width and depth, the grade beam footings and the slab having contiguous upper surfaces.
