Above ground tornado shelter

A tornado shelter and having a reinforced monolithic construction resulting from a single pour of concrete is described herein. Rebar extends upwardly from a base. The rebar is encased in concrete that forms the walls of the shelter. An upper portion of the rebar extend above a top surface of each of the walls. The upper portion of each of said rods are bent inwards and are also encased in the single pour of concrete for strengthening a ceiling portion of the shelter. A door, in-wall conduits, vent orifices and attached benches may also be provided.

A framing assembly has at least one rafter vent assembly having a connecting member with a plurality of vent tubes for providing supplemental ventilation and additional structural support to a frame of a building structure. The at least one rafter vent assembly may be an interior rafter vent assembly or an exterior rafter vent assembly. The interior rafter vent assembly has at least one brace member and a connecting member, with the connecting member having a connecting plate, two end plates, and the plurality of vent tubes. The exterior rafter vent assembly has the connecting member that has a connecting plate and the plurality of vent tubes. The framing assembly also preferably has a plurality of modified structural insulated panels (SIPs) and modified rafter splines.

A frame system for a building structure includes beam members. Each beam member comprises two opposed, parallel flanges. A web is interposed between the flanges. Spreader members comprise two opposed, parallel side flanges, a web interposed between the side flanges and two opposed end flanges bridging the side flanges at respective terminal ends of the web. The beam members and the spreader members are configured to be fastened to each other to form a frame assembly.

A rafter bracket configured to connect a vertical post to a rafter is described herein. The rafter bracket may include lower vertical side plates, a horizontal plate, and upper vertical side plates. The horizontal plate may be perpendicular to the upper and lower vertical side plates and may separate the upper vertical side plates from the lower vertical side plates. The horizontal plate and lower vertical side plates may create an upper cavity that receives the vertical post. Meanwhile, the rafter may be positioned on one of the upper vertical side plates and positioned between two of the upper vertical side plates and may be angled at an acute angle relative to the vertical post as well as the upper and lower vertical side plates.

Described herein is a truss/rafter roof erection device, kit and system. A removable universal bracing bracket assembly attaches to a construction member such as a truss on one end and includes at least one vertical bracket member attachable to a proximal end of a wood beam member that extends down to the ground to support the truss in an upright position during roof construction. Another pivoting bracket on the bracket assembly allows another wood beam member to be attached and extend down to the ground to further support the truss in an upright position.

The building section includes a roof portion extending in a longitudinal direction between opposite first and second ends, and a pair of first and second legs, each leg pivotally attached about a pivot axis to the roof portion proximate a roof portion end. Each of the first and second legs has a stowed position in which the leg generally extends in the longitudinal direction and is in superposition with the roof portion, and an expanded position in which the leg depends from the roof portion and generally extends perpendicularly to the longitudinal direction. The legs are moveable independently of each other from their respective stowed positions to their respective expanded positions under the influence of gravity during lifting of the roof portion. Also disclosed are methods for constructing a modular clearspan building.
