Lateral arm awning system and method of operation

A lateral arm assembly and method of operation includes first and second articulating arms comprising first and second ends, the first ends of the articulating arms are mounted upon assembly to a support surface at separate lateral locations. The first ends each comprise separate pivoting mounting structures for forming a first pivotal connection with the first and second articulating arms. The lateral arm assembly also comprises a roller tube having spaced lateral ends supporting respective end brackets that provide a second pivotal connection to the second ends of the articulating arms. The roller tube supports a canopy coupled to a roller shaft, wherein one of the end brackets further supports a device that drives the roller shaft for furling and unfurling the canopy.

A hood for a roll up shutter is provided wherein the hood configured to be transported in a flat or rolled up configuration and assembled upon delivery. The hood includes a sheet having a first surface and a second surface and at least one indentation formed on at least one of the first surface or the second surface, the indentation configured to facilitate bending at the at least one indentation wherein after delivery, the sheet is bent at the at least one indentation so as to form the hood.

Therefore, the power wand will electrically drive and direct extension and retraction of the awning assembly. The power wand may be a portable hand-held device which provides battery powered operation of the awning motor. The use of the wand therefore eliminates the connection of awning wiring to the electrical system of the recreational vehicle (RV) or other mobile or fixed structure to which the awning may be mounted.

The body of the mounting bracket lock may define one or more projections that extend therefrom, and that engage in a friction fit between corresponding surfaces of the mounting bracket when the mounting bracket lock is in the locked position.
