The present invention relates to a handrail arrangement. The handrail arrangement comprises a handrail defining a grippable exterior surface and a recess in the handrail. The handrail arrangement also comprises an attachment device (40, 42) which is receivable in part in the recess defined in the handrail, the attachment device being configured in respect of a part not received in the recess to be attached to a handrail support (32). The handrail comprises first and second parts (34, 36) which are configured to releasably attach to each other, the first and second parts when attached to each other defining a substantially continuous exterior surface of the handrail in a circumferential direction, the first part defining more than 180 degrees of the circumference of the exterior surface of the handrail and the second part defining less than 180 degrees of the circumference of the exterior surface of the handrail.

Systems and methods for monitoring use of rail on a footpath

A safety rail monitoring system, and associated methods of operation, for monitoring use of a safety rail that borders a footpath to help prevent injuries while the user traverses the footpath. The safety system includes a sensor system for detecting the presence of a user on the footpath and the presence of a contact by the user on the safety rail. A sensor observation system in communication with the sensor system receives signals indicating whether the user is present on the footpath and whether the user is holding on to the safety rail. If the user is not holding on to the safety rail, the sensor observation system generates an alert signal to the user to remind the user to hold the safety rail. In some embodiments, the safety system may include a barrier that prevents the user from continuing along the footpath without contacting the safety rail.

The present disclosure relates to a handrail or support assembly for a stairway. More particularly, this disclosure describes a slidable holder or carrier automatically movable along the length of the handrail or support assembly to lift or carry objects for a user from one end of the stairway to another. In one illustrative embodiment, the assembly may include a handrail or support attached to a wall. A trolley assembly may be placed within the handrail or support and slidable along the length the handrail or support. An arm or extension may be coupled to the trolley assembly and connected to a carrier or holder. An actuator may slide or move the trolley assembly up and down the handrail or support assembly. Through the system described above, cargo may be lifted from one level to another level automatically.

A handrail system includes an elongated rail member, wherein the rail member includes a slot for carrying illumination elements, such as LED elements. The LED elements are provided in a light assembly that includes the LED's carried on a printed circuit board that is held by a lens member, the lens member being captured in the rail member slot. A cover the rail member can be co-extruded to have an opaque portion and a clear or translucent portion. The clear or translucent portion can overlie illumination elements. The opaque portion can cover the remainder of the rail member.

A collapsible staircase-handrail system includes an elongated primary rail extending lengthwise between primary-rail upper and lower ends. The primary rail is pivotably mounted adjacent the staircase for angular displacement about a spatially-fixed primary-rail pivot axis between primary-rail deployed and storage positions. The handrail system further includes a primary post extending between primary-post top and bottom ends, with the primary post being pivotably mounted adjacent the staircase for angular displacement about a spatially-fixed primary-post pivot axis that extends parallel to the primary-rail pivot axis. The primary-rail deployed and storage positions are such that the primary-rail upper end is disposed at, respectively, higher and lower elevations. Similarly, the primary-post pivots between deployed and storage positions defined such that the primary-post top end is disposed at, respectively, higher and lower relative elevations. The primary rail and primary post can selectively couple in order to mutually maintain one another in their respective deployed positions.
