The present disclosure relates to non-comedogenic and hypoallergenic sunscreen compositions that comply with COSMOS-standard AISBL.

A composition is disclosed that includes pure silk fibroin-based protein fragments that are substantially devoid of sericin, wherein the composition has an average weight average molecular weight ranging from about 17 kDa to about 38 kDa, wherein the composition has a polydispersity of between about 1.5 and about 3.0, wherein the composition is substantially homogeneous, wherein the composition between 0 ppm to about 500 ppm of inorganic residuals, and wherein the composition includes between 0 ppm to about 500 ppm of organic residuals.

Skin care formulations that function via a multi-modal approach are provided in some embodiments in which select ingredients work together to protect skin from ultraviolet light, hydrates the skin and provides antioxidant properties.

A self-emulsifying bioactive concentrate produced by a process comprising the steps of (a) creating a lysophospholipid concentrate comprised of a de-oiled lecithin source and 0.1% to 10% of an enzyme with having phospholipase A activity, wherein the lysophospholipid concentrate contains greater than 20% lysophosphatidyl-choline; and (b) combining the lysophospholipid concentrate from step (a) with a retinyl ester formed by the reaction of retinol and one or a mixture of unsaturated fatty acid(s).

Disclosed is an efficacious, low-pH skin care composition that provides good sensory properties and has a low skin irritation potential. The low-pH composition includes an effective amount of a vitamin B.sub.3 compound and, optionally, one or more additional skin care actives to provide a skin health and/or appearance benefit. The low-pH composition also includes a pH buffer comprising lactic acid and sodium lactate, a polymer thickener comprising polyacrylate crosspolymer-6, and a silicone fluid having a kinematic viscosity of 100 cSt or less at 25° C. The pH of the low-pH composition can range from 2.0 to 5.0.

Formulations such as serums to treat skin discoloration via a multi-modal approach are provided in some embodiments in which select ingredients work together to effectively brighten skin and treat hyperpigmentation.
