Cassette apparatus utilizing electric field for processing of blood to neutralize pathogen cells therein
11801336 · 2023-10-31 ·

An operational unit for locating and neutralizing pathogen cells in blood includes a time use cassette which has a plurality of thin holding chambers that are filled with blood drawn from a patient. A light source illuminates each of the holding chambers and passes light to an underlying sensor array such that the cells in the blood selectively block the light to produce shadow images of the cells in the sensor array. A processor performs pattern recognition to identify and locate the pathogen cells by use of an image library. After the pathogen cells are located, an electric field is activated in the cassette chamber areas that include the identified pathogen cells. Sufficient electric field energy is applied to destroy the identified pathogen cells. A pump refills the cassette holding chambers, returns the neutralized-pathogen blood to the patient, and the process is repeated for a period of time.

Decontamination device and method using ultrasonic cavitation

A method and apparatus for decontaminating substantially enclosed environments by using ultrasonic cavitation of a cleaning fluid to produce a low pressure, low air flow mist that can be activated by a nonthermal plasma actuator to create a cloud of activated hydroxyl species with the capacity to decontaminate articles, open surfaces or substantially enclosed spaces of pathogens, including bacteria, and other pathogenic microorganisms. An automated system and related non-transitory computer medium are also disclosed.

Methods of and system for generating antimicrobial wipes

Exemplary methods of and system for generating an antimicrobial wipe to clean and disinfect a surface contaminated with bacteria, viruses, spores, fungi, or combinations thereof. In some embodiments, the method includes applying non-thermal plasma to a moistened wipe to activate a liquid in the wipe. In some embodiments, the method includes applying non-thermal plasma to a liquid and then applying the activated liquid to a wipe. In one embodiment of a system for generating an antimicrobial wipe the system includes a housing having an opening; a supply of wipes disposed within the housing; a non-thermal plasma generator disposed within the housing; a power supply electrically coupled to the non-thermal plasma generator; and a feed system disposed within the housing, wherein the feed system moves one or more wipes from the supply of wipes past the plasma generator and out of the opening. As the feed system moves the wipes past the plasma generator, the plasma generator applies non-thermal plasma to the wipes.

METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR STERILIZING AND DISINFECTING AIR AND SURFACES AND PROTECTING A ZONE FROM EXTERNAL MICROBIAL CONTAMINATION
20220143232 · 2022-05-12 ·

This invention relates to a method, process and apparatus for disinfecting and sterilizing all types of surfaces contaminated with microorganisms and toxic substances to render both inactive. Furthermore, this invention relates to both a method and apparatus for disinfecting and/or sterilizing breathable air and then using this air to protect a confined space from external contamination. The apparatus consists of a new ultra-violet (NUV) source that is more effective than mercury based 254 nm light for destroying DNA of virus, bacteria, spores and cists. It is most effective in breaking chemical bonds in toxic gases and Biotoxins that are useful to terrorists. It is combined with other apparatus that remove particulates and byproducts sometimes produced by the NUV source and maintains positive pressure of the confined space so as to prevent the influx of air from outside the protected zone.

Wound dressing

A kit of parts for use in treatment of tissue by a contained plasma and/or plasma products is disclosed. The kit of parts includes a plasma generating device for use with a membrane dressing attached to tissue requiring treatment. The plasma generating device comprises a first cavity with an opening at one end formed between a grounded electrode and a cathode such that, in use, an arc discharge between the cathode and the grounded electrode ionizes a feed gas to produce at the open end a thermal plasma. Furthermore, the plasma generating device also comprises a second cavity with an opening at one end formed between a high voltage electrode and a grounded electrode such that, in use, a dielectric barrier discharge between the high voltage electrode and grounded electrode ionizes a feed gas to produce at the open end a non-thermal plasma. The membrane dressing is suitable for covering tissue in use, such as a diabetic ulcer, and comprises a sheet of impermeable material configured for forming a plasma containment compartment adjacent to the tissue. The membrane dressing also comprises one or more input connectors configured to admit plasma and/or plasma products through the membrane dressing. The plasma generating device and the one or more input convectors of the membrane dressing are configured to allow the plasma generating device and the input connector to be directly coupled or indirectly coupled through a connector tube to allow fluid communication of the plasma and/or plasma products produced at the openings of the cavities of the plasma generating device through the membrane dressing to, in use, allow conduction of the produced plasma into the membrane dressing. Advantages of such a kit of parts may be that the membrane dressing does not need to be removed to inspect the progress of the wound, nor does it need to be removed and replaced to manage the exudate. Such advantages helps to mitigate the problems of wound aggravation and maceration typically associated with well-known wound dressings, and also helps to encourage and facilitate wound healing.
